I signed up for this offer a couple of weeks ago. I chose Sky Movies and MySky+ (rather than Sky Movies and another premium channel), all free for 12 months (so I'm just paying the Basic rate which is $47 or something per month).

When my 12 months are up I'll just move my services to Vodafone since I'm with them for mobile & bb (as that way the MySky+ will be a lot cheaper).

Thanks I will use this... Rung sky and they had no idea about it.. So couldnt get what you managed to get hold of

it kinda sucks how sky doesnt offer free installation if you want to upgrade from HDi to HD+ for the main TV and from digital to HDi as multiroom. (free installation for new customers only)

Offering to give them more money but they cant do anything for me in terms of free installation. Disappointing really

Umm wouldn't you just direct them to their own site?  If they don't want to provide this over the phone, it looks like you can sign up directly via the site with the offer.

You could always cancel, wait the requisite period (can't remember how long that is offhand) and then sign up as a new customer to get the free install. Plus, mention you are doing this when and why when you are cancelling and they might suddenly discover they can do something after all?

I don't think Sky really care that much about customer retention.

There's no competition.

Unlike the telcos who will put you onto a retention team to try and keep you, Sky just say goodbye.

The same deal was sent to me in a mailer.

"Call 0800 759 555 and quote 4051 to get this offer now" (before 30 June).

Benjip: Well done on substituting a "premium channel" with MySKY+. You must have charmed the sales rep no end.

sonyxperiageek: Multiroom is no longer required to access iSKY live sport streaming -- just need to be a SKY Sports subscriber.

If they do cold calling to get new customers, I would think they would want to try an keep customers, as can be cheaper to keep one than get a new one. But as you say there is no competition in this market, or on the content market. If you want ot watch sport, you have no choice, and I can't see that changing.

Many places operate like that.  I believe BNZ (for a while at least) were paying staff bonuses for each new mortgage customer, but nothing when it came to renew existing mortgages.  The sales guys are working hard out at new customers, but they're often forgotten once they're in the system.  There's merit in leaving and coming back as a new customer, hence I can't understand the frequent suggestions to stay on as a free channel only customer "because you can sign back up quickly at any time"?! rather than ditch Sky in favour of freeview.

Sky has no competition though, so you'll come back to them if you need the content.

Not if you have just signed a contract with Sky.
Those deals usually only apply to 'sky direct customers' and not resold by Vodafone.
