Are there any plans (with dates) for when other devices will be added? It would be great if Spark could detail exactly what devices it plans to support. Roku? Fire TV?

Will there be a guide of some sort detailing what is HD and what isn't? (Netflix has (had?) this ability)

Do the PC/Mac applications support remote control devices? And are they designed for 10-foot usability?

Sorry, missed these.

Both Roku and Fire TV have a very slim presence here, so not the most obvious candidates for next step devices. We're looking at all options, though.

No remote control support from launch and our website designed for PC screen sizes. We'll do big screen designs soon enough.

There isn't an HD guide for the moment - we'll just give you the best quality we've got (as your connection permits). If there's a lot of interest in marking content based on quality, we may implement later on.

Roku has a pretty limited presence here, obviously.

Not an encouraging statement for a proud Roku owner :)

I'd be happy to test Roku and Linux implementations if you need help.

In terms of content, can I suggest (along with the hip new stuff) grabbing "Heartland" type NZ content? That shouldn't cost too much, and would be content not available on other providers (read Netflix), hence a unique competitive advantage. Billy T James, Gloss, Country Calendar, Count Homogenised, Under the Mountain etc etc.

I only ask because I would hate to have to reinstall flash or silverlight onto my computer to nuke my cpu all the time. Been living without both of these on my computer for years now.

Silverlight's the name of the game. Not going to win any popularity prizes, but it has cross browser support (HTML5 DRM support is still spotty) and it's a well known and tested entity for everyone involved (including content owners). We may see HTML5 and stuff like DASH supplant current technologies, but we're not there yet.

I've been on an internal lightbox trial the last couple of weeks. (On bigpipe broadband obviously)

It's really really great. :)
Vikings is awesome show. Brutally violent, feels similar to GoT. Just getting into 24, starting from season 1 episode 1. That should take me a while....

Some of the things I have noticed for the techy minded:

The stream starts faster than netflix, is faster to ramp up to hd, and the scrubbing (skipping forward/backwards x minutes) is virtually instantaneous. Whilst I can't tell the exact bitrate, to my eyes it looks very sharp on both my Mac, desktop PC, iPad Air, and iPad mini.

I guess it's a function of the content being hosted here in NZ rather than pulling it down from LA each time, but it's a significant benefit for me nonetheless. I imagine that those who's connection struggles with netflix, will find lightbox works much better because of the local content hosting.

The ui is nice and easy to use. My 4 year old has already mastered selecting content she likes on the ipad and air playing it to the TV, which also works brilliantly.

Well, in so far as we'll have 'em coming in that way. Some shows may be trickling in, others in bulk seasons (most of them). But we won't be sitting on shows and waiting to premiere them.

That's a good point, actually. We're still bringing in more content and we're definitely eager to get as much NZ content as we can.

Not at the moment, no.

Not a lot of TV shows (which is what we're doing right now) have been shot in 3d tbh.

No, not for launch. There is a no well established way to do captioning across several streaming formats and multiple devices, so doing it pretty complicated and expensive (apart from the actual captioning, which naturally also drives a fair bit of cost). I've got first hand experience implementing it in a market where most stuff had to be captioned (non English speaking) and it was an endless source of frustration.

We've got many things we want to do, so we'll have to prioritise - unfortunately that means no captioning.
