Have you read the thread?  I'll assume not.  Deal is for new customers only through telemarketing.

In fact the deal is not available if you call anyway so sky are not offering a good deal... the telemarketers are offering a good deal.  Although I would sign up if one called me and get the HD ticket added... @ $10 it's only a couple of coffees a month.

Don't get me wrong, I object to paying it, I just don't want to watch an SD feed.

That's a more realistic price...I'd probably still have Sky if it was the case.

Is there another country that has a big cable tv still giving sd feeds with no recording? I think sky is just ripping people off. I voted with my feet. That was like 10yrs ago.

Fair enough , but why have you left 11 comments on a thread you obviously have not interest in?

IMO the best way to get sky is through vodafone.

Free MySky when you have home broadband with them

If you're in a cable or UFB area where you can get the Vodafone Recorder, You get free HD on all channels, No need to buy an HD ticket

Plus they have deals at the moment like Free Sky for 6 Months

I have been with Vodafone for years but where I am moving to uses another ISP so Vodafone TV is not an option.

We have had Sky for years, definitely not my choice but I am not the only member of this household. We are not into sports and mainly watch news, documentaries, Arts Channel and Rialto, plus occasional other films. We still have the old Pace SD decoder that I have coupled with a Panasonic DVR.

The best signal we can get from the Pace is s-video but feeding it through the DVR upscales it to HDMI. This in no way comes even close to hi-def but it isn’t too bad and we can record anything we like any time we like.

In addition, we have UHF for Freeview with a non-approved PVR that records anything we want in high definition, or at least as high as TV1, 2 and 3 go. That is also not restricted in any way. Many decent films (and a lot of others) turn up on Freeview channels eventually and if they interest us we record them there in HD on a big USB drive. I then strip out all the commercials on my computer using Video Redo and we play the films back through the UHF box whenever we want to watch them.

This is not a perfect system but it is pretty good and it is sure a lot cheaper than all the Sky surcharges. Also, years ago I had Sky blacklisted from our phone so we no longer receive their irritating sales calls twice a week. Personally I think Sky is a monopoly money machine, dedicated to charging as much as they possibly can for as little in return by means of multiple layers of paywalls, surcharges, scams and rip-offs. And people wonder why kiwis use proxies to watch Netflix and other services overseas.

I should have mentioned that this is not the normal sky number.  This is the one that will put you through to the telemarketers.

You will get:

- MySky+ PVR
- Sky basic channels
- A choice of 2 premium channel packages (e.g Sport and movies)
- Sky magazine

All for the low price of $48.

If you want HD channels where available you will have to add the HD ticket @ approx $10.  But $58 for that is still pretty sharp for Sky IMO.

This is a 12 month deal on a six month contract.  That means you can get rid of it after six months at no extra charge.

If you call the standard Sky number they will not offer you this deal.

After 12 months the standard charges will apply... but you can revisit that issue then ;-)

This is for new customers only, sorry.

Hmmm - wonder if they would go for;

- MySky+ PVR
- Sky basic
- Sports ONLY + HD Ticket

I.e. drop movies and replace with HD...as all I really want is HD sports, that is all I will use Sky for.

Anyone tried this?
