I was phoned by a Sky rep and offered the following deal, The MYSKI+ box, standard channells plus movies and sports for 12 months for the price of $48.00 a month. This to me was a realistic price and deal so I accepted. I used to be a sky customer but got annoyed with the continual price increases and when they lost the motogp bike racing I cancelled my account. I will see what they offer in 12 months time as a lot can happen over that period.

I've been thinking about leaving sky for some time now, and this really seals the deal. In know that it's common to offer such deals forr new but not existing customers, but I have been a sky customer continuously since they launched, and am being royally shafted, with not a hint of anything to try and retain me, let alone a deal like this. Time to go I think.

Have you spoken to Sky about your thoughts of leaving? They cannot fix that which they do not know about

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

That deal is getting better - I was rung last month and offered normal decoder + sports + movies for $48, or I could drop movies and get a MySky box. Still had to pay the extra $10 for HD ticket tho, and they wanted a $25 joining fee if I went with the MySky box - but not the standard decoder. I declined, as all I want is HD sport, and would be happy to pay $50 a month for that but nothing more.

Good deal.

It annoys me about the mysky box. I tried to upgrade from mysky to the + but they wanted $600 (or something like that) because i am one of the original mysky customers who paid for the one-off fee back when they first released it. Then, I heard some others were able to do it but sky still say I cannot.

Anyway, I have just purchased the panasonic 835 and am about to cancel sky -- now that most of the rugby is over.

No more annual "due to our costs increasing" letter woohoo.

And anyway,  I should not have sky as I have young children. The childrens channels are awful yet somehow addicting to them.

That's exactly what I did - the 835 is a great replacement for MySky.  And you don't have to pay a monthly fee to enable its HD picture

Just great... I upgraded to MySKy+ 3 months ago with movies and sport - but only after asking whether there was a deal for doing that. Apparently there wasn't, and the call centre person told me I should be grateful because I was given a 12 month deal eight years ago when I first signed up. While I pondered that, the call centre hung up on me. I gave in a few days later, called back and signed up at twice the price being offered to a new customer. If there was an alternative in the market, I would take it.

Wow... that is a great deal.  How does one get a phone call like that! There is nothing even close to that on their website.

Can you explain why there is a 'joining fee' for MySky and not the standard decoder?

Thanks JonnyCam.  That is a good deal.

It is still not as good as quoted by the OP though

If you are out of contract and they refuse to switch you, you can sign up as another family member on the new plans and get the better deal
