the interface is simple, there is sufficient programming but yeah until I can get it on a big screen its never going to be more than a second choice and not one that i am willing to pay for

Assuming Chromecast & Android support come to fruition and there is not too much programming overlap with other services then it will be something we seriously consider paying money once the Spark freebie period is done and dusted

Functionality and hardware support are of more importance than overall programming in my opinion

If they waited till they had full device coverage before launching, then they would still not be launched.
No streaming video company in history has launched with full device coverage.
Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, bbc iplayer, Quickflix, etc etc all launched on browser, then slowly added device coverage over many years.

Yes, but it's 2015 and they (other platforms) launched a LONG time ago, which is their competitive advantage, anything that wants to compete, needs to be that, competitive, today.

Nothing to be done now but to try, and see if people are still interested when their product is mature.

On the flip side Netflix US isn't accessible by the average family, they either don't know or would have no idea how to get it working, or wouldn't bother. A local player will get traction by making it easy to access.

Nothing more to be added to the thread I don't think.

I'd rather pay for a lesser content library on the big screen than take up free more extensive content on my PC.

Lightbox say in a "few months" they will have move device information. I'm sure I heard a Lightbox rep say the same thing on a NZ tech podcast some months back.

The juggernaut of streaming is coming and if LB don't move quickly to gain first mover advantage it will be game over. Personally, I hope they put in whatever extra is required in the next few weeks to do so.

They may have a suicide wish, but hopefully there still may be time to talk them in from the ledge.

Since they were on nztechpodcast they have launched on PS3, ps4, Samsung smart tv, samsung tablets.
Chrome cast is confirmed to be coming verysoon.

That will basically cover a huge proportion of the population. I'm guessing next would be Xbox, lg and Sony TVs.
After that, doing the rats and mice of devices that virtually nobody has like Panasonic may not be worth it.

From what I understand, the share is even more skewed in NZ, with Samsung even higher, and the other guys even lower.

A bit more search and we can get more recent numbers - still global data though. Those report that Panasonic has a 7% market share of SHIPMENTS, not REVENUE.

In order you'd see Samsung, LG, Sony, Panasonic...

A search for "{brand} smart TV" on Geekzone returns Samsung and LG on top with Sony and Panasonic behind - but just about:
