True but only 2 of the 4 games this weekend will be shown. And its not in HD. I've supplemented my watching with additional NFL content over the last few months thanks to TVNZ. But my numbers dont take into account the extra hours I've watched thanks to the advertising community and taxpayers giving me extra content.

My bad. TVNZ are showing all 4 playoff games on TVNZ Popup this weekend. And all through the post season.

TVNZ Ondemand I think shows the games in 720p HD live.

For an extra $22/mth you can get both ESPN channels and the popup sports channels.

I'm guessing you want it for free?? My morning coffee needs to include a muffin or cookie! yeah, right.

How does one pay an extra $22 a month to get ESPN & popups without actually having sky?
If you're just saying sign up for sky you've kinda missed the point.

It would be an extra $22 every month for a minimum contract term...

I think you're missing my point. People have been crying out for a sport only option for years - they get it and then not happy cos its not all the sport.
You want the Works package for the Seat only price. If there is value as a viewer for the extra sport then pay for it. Most things on ESPN are multi-month sporting competitions anyway so doubtful that one would want ESPN for a weekend or a single month.

Cancelled last night. $110 for Sport in HD was grating enough - SKY offering me a week of Rialto when I asked about the $50 deal people were getting was the clincher.

10+ years man. How about trying to RETAIN customers.

If you're not watching sport then its seems silly to be paying for it. Others in this thread are switching to Fanpass for their sport fix.

I subscribed to a fruit & vege delivery service until last year - was one of their early customers. I was finding that I could get better quality, range and value for money by buying from my local shops and supermarket. They made no attempt to retain me either. go figure.

I came searching here tonight looking for an answer to an issue my parents were having with Sky. Accidentally, I stumbled across this thread. I can honestly say that my recent news on this is totally uninfluenced by any goings on on this site.... But I too cancelled my Sky subscription earlier this week for exactly the same reason as the OP.

When I first joined Sky, I paid about $25 a month for three channels on UHF, of which Sky sport was one. That price gradually increased to over $30, which was still a pretty good deal. Along the way, after my first son was born and my household dropped to one income, we cancelled Sky to try and reduce outgoings as much as possible. We rejoined a couple of years ago, and earlier this year I considered adding sport, as my financial situation had changed favourably (and my marriage ended so it was just me here to watch what I wanted). I lived out all of 2015 as an experiment to see how much non-sport channels I actually watch. The conclusion I came to was, nothing.

The problem I have with the whole thing is this. They used to offer THE EXACT plan I (and many others, it seems) wanted, and it was at a reasonable price. I get that the digital switchover occurred over that time, but customers never actually asked for that. It was forced upon us, not because it suited the customers, but because it suited the broadcast companies. But they treated it like it was something they never wanted to do, and kept digital prices higher. Sky made a big mistake, in my opinion, and never offered a similar plan. Instead, they maintained their almost 'luxury' model whereby sports fans had to pay about $50 a month for nothing, to then be entitled to the privilege of paying a further $25 ish a month for sport. Since then, of course, those prices have only risen.

And now they keep messing around trying different things (Igloo, Fan Pass, whatever the next idea will be) that all cost more than those old UHF plans did, but offer quite similar features. I'm sure there's a very good reason why that old model is no longer viable, or else they would have offered again by now. I'll be another Fan Pass user, as and when I need it, but in the meantime, as someone who turns off appliances not in use to reduce my power bill, I can't justify $51.88/month for something I never watch.
