I wouldn't think so.

For fan pass you just register and sign up at www.fanpass.co.nz

The new pricing starts on the 24th

If you don't care about sport (like me) are there any deals for Movies, Soho, etc?
(Personally I think Soho should be part of the basic package - that would tempt me a lot more).

The deal isnt restricted to sport it is for 2 x premuim channels.

See the sky deals thread (view answer only) for more detail :)

Rikkitic:

Someone may correct me but I'm pretty sure there is no form of copy protection on the composite signal.

There wasn't on the old boxes. The new ones appear to apply CGMS/A set to copy once - so you can record them to the Panny box, but that seems to disable the ability to subsequently burn them to DVD, or stream around the house using DNLA.

Fortunately, cheap devices (circa $50-80) can be acquired that, when placed between the box and the recorder, will deal to that - but do slightly but noticeably soften the picture in the process.

The one I got from Jaycar eons ago to digitise my VHS tapes before dumping them works fine for this. A work colleague has also acquired an Xdimax Grex, and apparently that works well also.

PSLog: Thanks for that.
They don't seem to be answering today, so I'll try again on Monday.
Someone may know:....is Sky sport a "Premium Channel"?
If so it may work out at
$29.00 for Sky plus MySky+
$39.90 for Sky Sport
ie $68.90 per month or $413 (minimum of 6 months) to watch the Americas Cup.
THAT could work :-)

Yes.  Premium just means any channel package that doesn't come with basic... Sport, Movies, Soho etc are premium channels.

See the answer highlighted in yellow here. https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=106&topicid=160441&showanswer=yes

0800 4 SKY TV (0800 475 988). They are available after midday because they work at night.  They are a telemarketing company (they are not SKY).

Current pricing is:

Mysky+, Sky Basic     $29.90

+ Sky Sport              $39.00 (so this is your minimum cost as you want sport)

+ HD ticket if you want HD... add $9.99 (this can be added later if you want to try it in SD first. You can also remove the HD ticket at any time because it does not form part of the contract)

It is a 6 Month contract so you can cancel after that but not before. Will revert to full price after 12 months. You can add another premium channel for about $10 if you wanted sport or something but you have to do it at the time of signing up.  You can't add a second premium channel afterwards for the reduced price.

Note: the Mysky+ box includes recording for free.

PSLog: Yeah. Looked at the Fanpass schedule. Looks like we should see May27th schedule tomorrow.
Looks like the ideal solution for me. Don't even have to record it because you can watch any time after the event - up to 24 hours later

Very pleased to hear about this from you guys,.. Thanks heaps.

They have just raised the prices for Fanpass. Also I am not 100% on this but I think the 24 hours later only applies if you are watching on a computer.  i.e the apps won't do this.

Thanks kharris.
I guess, though, that I can still cast the content from my PC to my TV when it's not live??

If you can cast it from your PC when it is live then I presume so. Personally I would still consider the Sky deal page as this seems to be by far the cheapest option.  The new pricing for Fanpass is a bit ridiculous.

Edit: admittedly it is for a six month minimum though.

Yes - but Fan Pass is still the better deal for me just for the AC. I guess they're making hay while the sun shines. The timing of this increase is just too neat (in relation to the AC) for it to be coincidence.

@PSLog

I just got Sky installed on the deal kharris mentioned - you call the 0800 4SKYTV number (and press 1 I believe - it asks if you are calling about Sky).

The deal I have is Sky Basic, a MySky+, HD Ticket and Sky Sports. $48.99 a month.

It was installed on Monday for me (for same reasons as you - America's Cup, plus the Lions tour).

I had forgotten how good the MySky unit is compared to the Freeview recorder I was using previously.

I was going to use a couple of Fan Passes, but when they put the price up to $99 a month, I got a Sky install past the Minister of Finance (so will have 6 months of Sky for under $300 instead of two months of only 4 Sky Sport channels for $200).

Yes, so long as the AC is on one of the four Sky Sport channels Fan Pass streams (I'm sure it will be).

Check that you can play it through your TV before buying it though (I think they have a couple of free highlights packages you can watch after you've signed up but before you've bought a Pass) otherwise watching the AC on your computer might be a bit sucky (remember, the FanPAss App doesn't let you watch previous content, only Live - no rewinding/recording or pausing).

I'm looking forward (nervously) to the racing.

There's no live stream from the AC website due to Sky NZ stopping them

From The AC App when someone asked why no NZ

"Hi Barry, Thanks for your comment. Sky Sport New Zealand purchased exclusive rights to LIVE coverage of the 35th America's Cup, which is why we are not able to stream via the app. If you are not a Sky subscriber, Sky Sport offers a Fan Pass app which you can get a 1 month subscription for. Kind Regards, The AC App Team"

That is a very good point. If they have an AC pop up channel, which is very likely, you won't have access to it on Fanpass.  Fanpass only streams Sky Sport 1-4.

https://fanpass.co.nz/channel/sky-sport-1
shows AC live coverage at 5am with delayed coverage at 7am

BUT
It seems they have a big problem with the ability to cast.
I can cast from You Tube and from Chrome but Fan pass refuses to cast anything.

If they can't fix that, it's a deal-breaker for me.

They don't man their support chat until after 3.00pm.https://cdn.geekzone.co.nz/images/ico29.gif
