This looks a lot different to Vodafone TV.

Vodafone TV you still had to set recordings same as MySky. This seems to have lot more features,
Maybe different subscription offerings. Won't know until see pricing.

Maybe it's not anti-competitive I was just wondering if it's heading there.
Like if Chorus only let certain ISP's have fibre, would be a business exclusive arrangement,
So not all business exclusive arrangements are competitive.

Why is this anti-competitive in the first place? Just because it's not currently available to anyone else, doesn't mean it's not going to be in the future. Lots of businesses have exclusive relationships anyway.

Im thinking of the featureset, not the content. The early article which was I believe was this mornings "to be announced today" included info that you can watch it on other TV;s and devices, clearly using wifi and/or ethernet from the new STB. That's a major feature. Fellet had hinted at such things fairly recently. If non Voda users were locked to one TV and little content on SkyGo, yet Voda users can have Sky everywhere on anything, thats not great. I have no issue with a discount

However I do see that Fellet said Sky could upgrade the 350,000 newer MySky to get the upgrade.

As per my last sentence, there will be cases where ok and cases where not.
Honda doesn't have monopoly on cars, all cars can get you a to b, and there are other different brands,
To choose from for differences in comfort, power etc, where as for most Sports to watch at home where's the choice in that at moment.
Each situation would need to look at factors to determine.
You can come up with examples where obvious not anticompetitive and the are other ones where it definitely is.
I haven't concluded either way with Sky as it's a bit more of a grey area compared to a LFC only selling fastest fibre to one ISP.

There's a bit of a difference between offering service with discount, to offering a service with different experience in my view.

All other streaming services can be brought reguardless of ISP, just if you go with particular one can get discounts.
This one is locking the service to one ISP.

I'm wondering if that software upgrade for mysky's is happening now, plus Sky could lower their costs further if they allowed consumer to provide hardware, rather then them supplying like Netflix, Lightbox have done.

if you look at it, its just an update to the t-box. so in that light the com com would have no issue, like updating an older skybox to a new sky box.

My point is anyone can buy Sky and a Honda car. But to get "this" STB and the featureset that goes with it, and the same for "this" Honda version, you have no choice. Going to that one dealer is less an issue than changing fibre providers if they have other benefits that Voda cannot provide.

Having the whole SkY STB accessible on other devices especially a good tablet is a biggie for me. What most have is Sky on one TV, thats it. Id buy a large screen iPad right now if that can be my carry around full TV

Edit: Some of the descriptions end abruptly, some with a full stop, and one even ends with a comma. Consistency would be nice...

Edit 2: It seems that someone from Voda is reading this, because they've been fixed.

+1 to this.

Since changing to FibreX two months ago, we had regular dropouts. It seemed to be fixed over the last few weeks, but returned with a vengeance over last weekend. I really can't recommend Vodafone TV to anyone until Vodafone get FibreX stability sorted....

I ditched Sky TV earlier this year for Foxtel Now. I can use it on any tv in the house (via chromecast) or device I want, it's in HD, and pricing is much better than Sky. Set top boxes are old technology. People (read: my teenage kids) want to watch content on their laptop or tablet when they want rather than linear broadcast tv.

Not sure abut the apps TVNZ on demand etc. I don't think broadcasters will go out of their way to have apps written for yet ANOTHER device.

I expect it might use the android version of the apps?

I'm unsure about pricing at the moment but have been testing one of these boxes for the last 4 months. It is great, the apps work quicker than on my smart tv and the picture quality on all the channels just seems better. I will definitely be signing up when the time comes but for the mean time am putting it through its paces. So far haven't been able to fault it, even with 20 recordings happening at once 😀
