As quoted earlier in this thread "Also the Foxtel equivalent of Basic + Sport + HD is AU$68/month, which is slight more expensive compared to Sky's NZ$65/month."

Sport costs, no matter who is airing it.

Im not sure how much Freeview charges, as our taxes pay for it I assume. So, its not free, its a paid service. The device range is non existent,. Panny or Dish. Freeview EPG is a shocker, its a 1980's look, lags, and Dish is better I think, but the devices are full of bugs. The latest Freeview Plus update catered for only the very latest devices, so the rest got a lite version, backwards from what they had before the update. This is all pretty shocking in my view

It won't matter how many facts or evidence or amount of logic you present, you are always going to find the people who irrationally hate on Sky. It's a national passtime :)

Encourages people to buy the latest hardware so a great idea. I think the hbbtv app is near perfect. Beautiful images from TVNZ at least. MediaWorks have also increased streaming resolution.

I gave up on buying a new phone every year Im not planning on buying a new $4000 TV every year, or a new $500 box or whatever they cost these days for each room.

Have a chat to someone who works for an ISP or try some research ( a response you so often give) regarding ISP traffic data during say the RWC or Rugby Championship as examples.

As advertising is a "Freeview offering I don't see how the reply regarding the cost of advertising is nonsensical.

The reality is they do (or did) charge a lot for what they give. They are expensive compared to comparable overseas providers. They also stuff advertising into the programming they are already charging for. If their margin is small, it is probably because they are an inefficient dinosaur that thinks a successful business model is gaining the ability to dictate what web sites private citizens are allowed to view.

I have never been a big fan of Sky but we had it until about half a year ago. We had it mainly as a holdover from the days when it really was the only game in town. I understand that they have changed their fee structure somewhat in an attempt to stem the flow of those abandoning it, but when we were subscribers we were paying around $100 a month for mostly crap. The only thing that had any real value to us was the Arts channel, but even that wasn't worth it so we finally decided we had had enough. We haven't missed Sky at all.

We also watch almost no Freeview. Streaming fills most of our viewing time, and none of it from pirate sources. With so much choice, paid and free, Sky doesn't even come into the picture. They just aren't relevant to us.

770,000 people feel differently and find value. I have Sky, I also have Netflix. Sky is a better collator of content by topic specific , and it's fast forward and rewind, esp for sports, is superior. I also don't need an internet connection. It contains plenty of content I find valueable which is why I have had it for 13 years on the trot. Even if 99% of it is crap you won't watch, it's still possible for 1% to provide you $100 worth of value.

I don't understand why you continue to comment in these threads about Sky as someone who by your own admission "supposedly" has no interest in it.

How about you read their last set of financial results and THEN comment if you feel they are inefficient? Paying a lot FOR content rights doesn't make them inefficient.
