Dingbatt:

But hey, anything Sky adds at no additional cost is good, isn't it?

I dunno, offering a new service in only SD as we roll into 2019, how good is that?

Well, as I said, it's a temporary initial offering, and also, so far you are the only one here upset about it, and you don't subscribe.

/me shrugs.

(wait for the usual suspects to make snide comments) :)

Sky Download to go. Restricted to standard definition and cannot be viewed if travelling to Australia for weekend )-:

Netflix download. High definition and can be viewed when travelling to Australia for weekend (-;

Or, hook the right (inexpensive) kit up to your Sky box and transfer the material to your phone, and it works in NZ or overseas, in SD or HD as you prefer. But that doesn't qualify as a new announcement, it has worked for at least the last six years.

Note: Please don't take this as advocacy for piracy and start another copyright/piracy flame thread. It's not advocating anything. It's merely a technical observation that this sort of thing as been simply and easily available for ages, in a less restrictive way than the app now offers.

Just tested SkyGo download,

On IPad Pro downloaded just over 400 MB in just over 30 seconds.
With WiFi off, it takes about 20-30 seconds for SkyGo to get past start screen, then it comes up with downloads, they played fine with no internet connection - I completely shut SkyGo down, so there was no internet verification.

So without cellular or GPS or looking at time zone on device cannot see how they’d know you’re overseas.

After downloaded have month to watch it in, or after start first play 48 hours, guessing it deletes after this time.

Picture was smooth and clear and sound was good on Pro.
