So if you have STB Sky, you get this for free?

If you have STB sky and the sports package you get the new sports channels and access to skygo to watch sports.  Sky Sports Now (SSN) is a replacement to Fanpass.

So no you don't get SSN for free if you are a STB sky customer as you have access to sports via skygo (as long as you have the sports package).

So, no SSN, which is in HD(?) but Sky Go, which has no castability and is in lower definition? Unless they are revamping SkyGO?

Last night I tried on Skygo Via the web to watch the netball final highlights, and it wouldn't play.

Watch this space, lots going on, none that i can comment on.

Can you comment on what definition SSN will stream at?

The new Sky CEO has certainly brought his broom with him and a new enthusiasm. The changes are good and I look forward to more.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

And will Vodafone TV support the Sky Sport Now app?  Then we would have Freeview + YouTube + Netflix + Sky Sport Now, all streamed on one box, controlled by a remote. 😄

Does anyone think this might be a bit of a con from Sky these new channels may look nice reconfigured. But for many months now we have had Sky sport 1,2,3,4 as regular sports channels,

Sky Sport 1
Sky Sport 2
Sky Sport 3
Sky Sport 4

Often popups 1-7 are all active running events or static "event coming blah blah" cards

Espn1 and 2 are existing

Looks to me like all they will do is shift some of the stuff they already screen on the popups and with them "themeing" the channels. Its likely to see a large increase in repeated and replayed content ex the popup channels.

OK sky sports news will be a new one but even that is likely to be %90 Fox sports news and U.K Sky Sports news. Filler content. They use to have Eurosports News as filler on the Sports channel sometimes.

So are we going to see excessive recycling of OLD content on these channels or improved value with more new live stuff??

I don't expect we're going to get flooded with live content. Sky Sport 5 - F1 will likely be overnight, mornings will have Nascar and Aussie V8 Supercars during weekends.

I was initially thinking this could be a replacement for the Kayo service I'm currently using. But the more I read it and understand what the press release says I think there is still quite a big difference between the two offerings.

The 12 sports channels will still be linear streams of what is available through a set-top box. They also state that there is access to replays, highlights, features and documentaries on demand. The big point of differentiation here is that Kayo offers live sports on demand. What I mean is, when I get up on a Saturday morning there are often two live golf events (USPGA and USLPGA). I can choose which event to watch live or even watch them both using PIP. With SSN I will only be able to watch whichever event is being aired on the Sky Sport 6 - Golf Channel. I may be able to watch the other on demand as a replay later or I may not??

Live on demand puts the power in the hands of the consumer and that's what I'm after. I don't see that in the press release or have I missed something??

Maybe a little off topic but will this new lineup mean an increase in Satellite capacity use? I'm of the impression it is likely neutral as Sky has been SS 1-4 + around 8 Popup channels

What will happen is your 2nd Golf event will be live on a popup. Then repeated on the Golf Sky sports channel when there no live golf. I honestly think these theme channels will end up a huge turnoff. Do we need to see cricket w.c match replays for days on end when there isn't a live game on in our day time?

Hope to be proven wrong..

No issues with satellite capacity as they cut sd channels and have room to spare with the dvb/s2 mpg4 change over a few months ago

That's still not live on demand. I can't start watching either event from the start if I get up and it's been on for 30mins?

There are mixed events channels, so PGA and LPGA can overlap if need be. Live sports is still live sports, that's not changing

If you are using MySky nothing changes, except more channels and more content. Record it. If you use Sky Sport Now, if its playing live you should be able to go back to the start.

To me, theme channel is just cleaner organisation, the MySky will still rule if you have that, OD will rule of you choose that

Think of it as MySky Sky Sports and Fanpass that now shows all sports and has OD replays
