No numbers on the remote is a big issue. Unless I can use an after-market alternative remote with numbers etc, and preferably a QWERTY keyboard on the back, it would likely be a deal breaker for me. I have a MINIX Neo A3 airmouse, which is a media remote on one side and a full keyboard on the back. It would be great if I could use that.

Also, I have had issues with my current Sky box not liking learning remotes and IR blasters. That would also be major issue for me, as I'm planning to use something like a Broadlink RM Pro in a couple of rooms to ite control of all my devices (DVD/BD recorders, TVs, Soundsystems, heating, Sky etc) together and control them off  Google Assistant. So I would be looking for that to work fine.

Minimum three satellite tuners (preferably four) or I'm not interested.

It would also be nice if I could continue to use the Sky app on my phone to remotely schedule recordings, like the current box allows me to do.

If you are able to stream all the channels then why would you need 3 satellite tuners?

Cancellation of the IP STB was canned by Martin Stewart because he wanted apps instead. Now it seems they want to merge both together. I have no issue with it. Also interested to see how they handle the tuner parts. Dual would be fine. Single would be annoying, would stop me from upgrading.

Bung a Sat tuner in there and you can't be accused of hanging rural users out to dry.

I expect it it to be relatively locked down understandably, so they can control the experience and assist with troubleshooting for the bunny users. Not a fan of the new remote, I want number buttons.

Your supposed to use voice these days.

Which of course, may well be your definition of hell.

The Nvidia Shield uses bluetooth for the remote. So hopefully there shouldn't be any issues using a Harmony Hub or a bluetooth keyboard.

Also with Android TV can you use other wireless remotes with dongles and then use a key program to remap the buttons to what you need, e.g. a guide function in Kodi etc.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Yep, I'm used to singe button doing lots after using Kodi on my Shield Tv... My sony android has a full remote which is actually better but I'm less concerned about a numpad.

I completely agree. Our Sky decoder connects to an h.264 encoder and Tvheadned. This means there is a few seconds delay between pressing a button and seeing any feedback. Point, enter number, [press 0000 for the R18 block,] done.

Hopefully this is better than the Vodafone TV which wont be difficult. If it is I will be in and the Vodafone TV puck can become a clay Pidgeon.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

If we can get elements of the VTV device (freeview and shared recording) then it will be a winner for Sky for a device let alone the other aspects of their service.

I like the fact it has a hard drive. Know more likely to break down then VFTV, but at least it’ll get around all that rights management crap for what you are allowed to record.

I’m part of their survey as well. Wasn’t sure if should share anything from it, but no NDA signed for it. Sounds like a beta trial of their internet service coming up as well.

I wouldn't trust whoever is running it now to be able to stomp out the burning bag of dog crap SKY is currently.

They spent a ton on an android puck and canned it, an iptv cloud stb and canned it etc. Ten's of millions wasted in contracts already signed.

You sound slightly unhinged.

Hundreds of Thousands of customers including myself use Sky.

Change of leadership often leads to change of direction. It happens.

I am seeing more positive things about Sky in the past 12 months than I have done in a long time.
