This is my fear for F1 practice sessions.  Due to the time changes to later in the day for europe, that often means they are start at 11 or 12 at night and unless Sky are prompt at getting replays up, they will get caught by the 6 hour cut off and as such not be available... Its a pretty shoddy move from what was a pretty good feature!

Hey folks, if implemented right this could be much better!

Let me explain.

I use Stan Sport for sport etc. They ensure the full games are available within a few hours of the game finishing, they also have a 30 minute highlight and a 10 minute highlight available to watch within a few hours. Very handy to 'quickly' watch all non Hurricanes games 😂

They don't have a 'tv guide' where you can go back 24 or 6 hours. Maybe Sky is looking to implement this? So in effect games and their highlights stick around for months/years like Stan? (I think I can still watch NZ games from last year).

The thing that prevented me from using SSN was no 4K All Blacks, no 4 streams at once, and no ability to watch all shows after 24 hours. If they improve what's available long term not just through their guide, it is a step in the right direction!

Exactly as I had feared. Can’t watch the golf from last night and there’s no full replay available, only a 2hr highlight package.

It gets worse. The 6 hour cut-off on the guide is taken from the start of the broadcast, not the end of it. Last night's golf started at midnight and finished at 5am. When I got up at 6am I couldn't watch it and there's no highlight package available yet..

Absolute idiots, glad I only bought a month's subscription for the Solheim and President's cups. I was hoping for a Black Friday deal like they did last year before picking up a year's subscription but I don't think I'll be doing that now.

Only way Sky will take any notice of this is if you vote with your feet and use alternatives. For me, I think the Black Friday deal of $300 for 12 months still makes it likely I would stick with SSN as it is quite a good deal - $25 per month even with the poorer on demand options. If there is no deal, I will be trying a few alternatives.

That doesn’t really sound like ‘voting with your feet’. You’re paying less but still getting the heavily restricted new replay rules.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

The problem with 'voting with your feet' is that you can't easily consume what they are offering via other methods easily - I want sport and I want it on my TV using an app, I don't want to have to fish around for an HDMI cable and a laptop and then connect a VPN just to access the footy.. so you either cut your nose of to spite your face and disconnect due to the changes or you keep on going and voice your complaints in the hope that someone listens.

This policy is deliberate though.

SSN is $499 now for 12 months, so I would imagine if Sky do bother with a 'Black Friday' deal this year it isn't going to be $299, I'd wager $399

It won't be $299. At the very best it might be $349 but I'd wager you are right and $399 is more likely. Time to look at what alternatives are available, legitimate or not.

My alternatives will involve using a VPN via Apple TV. No extra HDMI cable needed. I already do it for HBO content because Neon do not have 4k content or sound quality above stereo. I don't mind paying more for better quality content. Posters are probably right about this year's Black Friday offer being more than $300. If so, I'll be trying some of the alternatives.

For the first time in my life I've taken the step to actually provide feedback asking them to reconsider the change from 24hr playback to 6hr. I'm not expecting it to result in any changes but we live in hope.

In a recent survey sent by Sky I wrote feedback that I'd cancel the annual subscription if the drop to 6 hours playback went ahead. Just followed through on that now, and explained reasons in the exit survey.

I have alternatives which are great, but the thing SKY offers especially for the football fan is the on-demand, catch up facility. My other option doesn't have that, although does have UHD, 5.1 sound etc for much of their offerings.
