openmedia: Sky have just updated their network table to include HD streams for TV One and TV 2.

Their updated HD lineup is

12331H 22500 DVB-S2
 * SID 1161 - Sky Sport 1 HD
 * SID 1162 - Sky Sport 2 HD
 * SID 1163 - Sky Movies HD

12358H 22500 DVB-S2
 * SID 1164 - SM Greats HD
 * SID 1165 - TV 3 HD
 * SID 1171 - TV One HD
 * SID 1172 - TV 2 HD

So it looks like they have decided to squeeze an additional channel into 12358, so I'll be very interested to hear on video quality reports from this update.

I can't confirm if any services are being broadcast as I don't personally have Sky.

Steve

TV1 & 2 1280x720, bitrates look about the same as terrestial (using DVBViewer to measure) ie looks like a rebroadcast with no adjustment, same as TV3...

All other channels seem to be the same as before, AUX HD has been replaced.

Can you check what type of audio stream they are pumping out?

I don't have a DVB-S2 card yet so I can't analyse those streams. If you can grab the PMT table for that multiplex I'd appreciate it.

I'm assuming sky won't signal the myskyhdi boxes to switch to the new HD feeds until midnight monday morning, just rebooted mine and still refers to SD tv1 and 2

Just noticed something else SS2 is no longer DD5.1 - now MPEG, guess they had to find some bandwidth somewhere...

MPEG audio for TV 1&2

TV1 Vid 1002 Aud 1112 PMT PID 302
TV2 Vid 1004 Aud 1114 PMT PID 304

No guide on either stream yet.

Just got this from Sky by email:

Dear Subscriber

Important advice regarding MY SKY HDi functionality

From 1st June, TV ONE and TV2 will be available to all MY SKY HDi subscribers in High Definition (HD).

There is no change to the channel numbers or their position on the Electronic Programming Guide; however they will be renamed TV ONE HD and TV2 HD.

The addition of these channels has had an impact on the Series Link function for these channels and to continue using this feature for these channels, on the 1st June you will need to cancel and rebook any programmes that are "Series Linked."

To reinstate series linked programmes please follow the following steps using your MY SKY HDi remote control.

1. On June 1 (or as soon as possible after thereafter), make a list of programmes on TV ONE and TV2 only that are series linked in your planner.
2. Delete those programmes from the planner. You do not need to delete previous recordings.

3. Rebook a recording of the programmes on your list and then rebook the series link using the green button in the normal way. Your recordings will now be in HD.

If you have any questions, please visit www.sky.co.nz/tvnz.

Regards,

Amanda Bremer

Just tuned them both in and both look like they're working as advertised.

Given Sky have freed up a bit of space with Alt TV going plus TV1/2, couldn't they shuffle their transponders around to make room for another few more HD channels?

The HD channels need to be on their own transponder as they're using DVB-S2 rather than the older DVB-S transport(?) and the two can't be mixed. If they used DVB-S then I understand that they would require more bandwidth to transmit the HD channel than using DVB-S2.

I haven't had a good what so far but hat I've seen looks a pretty reasonable quality. I won't comment at all on sound as I'm still using a POS 2 channel stereo for that.

I just called and checked on the HD ticket policy,

apparently now you do have to pay for the HD ticket, if you want to receive tv1,2 and 3 in Hd.
I checked this with a CSR and a supervisor in the Mysky dept.

This sucks if you only subscribe to startup like I do

I'd question that as they screwed up our account during a sub change and removed the HD ticket. TV3 was still available in HD but the other channels dropped to SD.

I believe that it was part of the contract with TV3 to not require the HD ticket so would be unusual for this to have been changed so soon. Can't say about TV1 and 2 though as this will be another contract. I'm sure we'll find out soon after 1 June as I'm sure there are people around that have HDi but not the HD ticket.

I just found the information on Sky's website (although the ability to search for technical details still leaves a lot to be desired):

You DO need to pay the $10 HD Ticket cost to get any of the HD channels in HD, including 1, 2,  and 3 (well, that's according to the site, I don't work for Sky).  Perhaps someone with inside contacts could confirm these details?

I was told the opposite by a supervisor a couple of weeks back when I got HDi, and they told me that I wouldn't need the HD ticket for TV1 and 2 either. I got 4x months free multiroom as part of the HDi deal, and that comes with the HD ticket, so it's hard to confirm here. I'd hold off and see what happens come Monday.

Tivo upgrades to operate with the new OzTivo EPG, support and service. Over 400 performed here so far. See: www.hillcrest.net.nz

Thats the same deal I signed up on. Only my 4 months free multiroom and HD ticket end 5th June.

Thats why I called and asked, As I only subscribe to startup, and will cancel the Multiroom service early next month.

I told Both the CSR's that there seems to be a lot of confusion over this TVNZ and HD ticket, and was asured by the Mysky HDi supervisor that I would HAVE to pay the $10 ticket to get TVNZ in HD.
