dontpanic42: Come on Sky/Prime... you could at least show full uninterrupted coverage of the opening ceremony. No less than 10 minutes in they show ads???? Pathetic.

And now we wait for people to respond with some variation of "Why don't you just pay for Sky?".
The Olympics are supposed to be broadcast on a free-to-air channel are they not?
I don't remember TVNZ cutting the superb HD coverage of the Summer opening ceremony with ads.

They did on TV1 but it was non-interrupted on TVNZ Sport Extra

I agree. Started to watch Prime but after the second ad I gave up and went to Sky. I suspected that Prime would be an adfest though the Sky PQ wasn't too bad for a change. Better than what's on the other Olympic channels..

they all so delayed the show after the adds are done. so itwas delayed by 10to15 mins

NZ needs to catch up! The Olympics should be shown in HD. Saying there isn't enough space available simply doesn't cut it anymore. HD has been around for the best part of 10 years its not like it has just arrived and is cutting edge (that is held for 3D which should be arriving late this year in the US my vote is mid 2016 for NZ).

The story about the decision not being taken lightly is rubbish. This is the perfect showcase of what the world of HD has to offer and Sky would rather to continue to line their pockets while the consumer suffers once again. Sky recently launched their HDi product yet not supplying any of the games in HD the first real chance to show off how "great" their product is, is a stupid decision.

Until Sky can show they are committed to providing subscribers the best of what is available in HD I will not be giving them any of my money.

TVNZ had the Olympics in HD years ago, so Sky as a pay TV operator definitely should. They even charge their customers more for HD. No excuse really for not having it in HD. However being a monopoly, they can get away with it, and many of their customers wouldn't know what the difference was.

In 2008 the Olympics was shown in HD on Freeview HD. It was spectacular too. If Freeview could do it on the free-to-air platform I am not sure why SkyTV can't screen it in HD too.

Speaking for all the non-HD people who do not think that any Sky subscription is worth the cost (this may be just me), I am quite pleased that Sky have put a decent showing of the Olympics on Prime. I have my box configured to capture the whole 12hr x 7d programming and I will watch it at my leisure, skipping ads when they pop-up.

Comcast (cable in the US) is only showing 1 channel of HD with 2 other channels of SD.
Scattered all over the guide (NBC's main channel, CNBC, and USA - which is highlights and backgrounders).

This in the country with more HD, more channels and more providers. Its TVNZ all over again.

You think that you're hard done by but its not all beer and skittles up here.

Sure glad I'm not in Ozz paying Foxtel extra for the Olympic channels. 4 channels with Curling on is a bit much along with the endless replay. In the morning your lucky if you can find one live event.. Hope it's better than this for the summer Olympics or would have been better to stay with TVNZ

I dunno, I think you're being a bit harsh. I'd much rather what we have, where it seems most, if not all events are covered live, in full, with no ad breaks. You can't make up a live event where there isn't one running :)
