System:eXDee:zkcow: Personally I've always thought Sky should offer a 'buffet' service of sorts, where you choose which channels you want to have.
For example I would only choose to have Discovery, Nat Geo, Animal Planet, maybe Documentary/History/CI and Living. Maybe the Box or something too. I don't need Disney or Nickolodeon or most of the channels Sky offers.
Except that people would want this to lower their overall price. Something sky doesnt want.
I too find half the stuff on sky to be trash.
I agree, and it is repeated constantly, i think most customers will have channels they would be prepared to throw out and the buffet idea would be great although as said Sky would be unwilling to do such a thing as they would be making less money

gareth41: no more hvc plus and tv cards with bt878 chipsets needed anymore :)
gareth41: i know people still using old tvs with bunny ears or a standard vhf antenna and refuse to and dont have any plans to upgrade to digital, despite me telling them analogue will be switched off eventually, and its already been done for sky analogue. I guess those are the same type of people sky had left on their analogue system (100 custs) when they turned it off, now they will be without tv because they ignored sky, i wonder how many of them called sky when it got switched off

richms: They are probably the same ones that will leave it till D day on CDMA to start to worry, that wait till their car stops working before getting it serviced etc.
IMO, the digital cut over should happen as soon as a box is available for under $100 otherwise it will never happen if 25% of people are in the dont care brigade.

I like that idea... except that the cheapest satellite receivers can be had for "close enough to" that price already ($120 and that's only looking at FreeviewShop; Trade Me is probably cheaper). Don't get me wrong - I can't wait for analog switch off! I think there needs to be a more defined incentive and timetable. If people knew that analog TV was going away at the end of this year then they'd have plenty of time to decide whether they wanted to hook up to Freeview, Sky, some other option, or forget having a TV. Let's not mess around!
