LookingUp: DS9 - what's the story with the additional MySkyHDi HDD? I'm seriously considering an upgrade to MySkyHDi, but the limited HDD is a serious worry, and one of the current sticking points.

Shoud I wait for the larger HDD, or is it likely to be a firmware update to enable the addition of an external drive through the USB?

A few months back Sky asked their staff to come up with a name for an external HDD for the MySkyHDi it will be similar to the TIVO http://www.mytivo.co.nz/whatistivo/accessories/dvrexpander/ I just do not know the size or name yet.

I aim to misbehave.

I would like to see the HDD Extender use the existing eSATA connection on MySkyHDi. USB is too slow.

Or even better, a way of getting video off the box and onto a home network using an ethernet connector. Current ways of getting video off the box mean it has to be done in real-time (record with a DVD recorder, record to PC using an HDCP stripper) and are tedious. This is the main reason I haven't upgraded to MySkyHDi.

the vuduo allows you to download/copy recordings to your pc over the network, no need for any HDCP strippers. You can also use an e-sata hdd if you wish without problems. I have mysky installed and I must admit my decoder has been sitting gathering dust as I always use my vuduo and before that it was a dm600, the mysky remote is like new due to no use. I just cant stand the small hdd size and the inability to transfer content to my pc. The files come down as .TS files, raw satellite transport stream files, vlcplayer reads them no problems as they are compressed with mpeg2 or h.264 for HD content. If you have the knowledge you can burn these files to DVD or Bluray for HD using programs like tsremux.exe.

If you have small silver pace decoder, chances are you will have a skycard that works with the vuduo, from what I have read on other threads on geekzone, sky techs have been told to put the new 45xx blue cards (same cards as mysky) into the small silver pace decoders, even though these decoders can take the older 17xx gold cards too.
