dolsen: From here

http://www.throng.co.nz/sky/sky-confirms-isp-partners-new-online-tv-service-isky

"SKY Television is pleased to confirm that it has partnered with Vodafone, Orcon, Slingshot, Woosh, Xnet and Farmside to create un-metered broadband plans for a new online TV service, iSKY."

There goes any hope of unmetered TiVo on Orcon I guess..

StarBlazer:   In the words of TCL - there will be no free lunch - subscibers will probably need to pay an additional subscription for the service - bit like multi room.  I mean really - if they offered free iSky access - why would anyone have multiroom?

Looks like you need multiroom to be able to access live sports

"If you're a SKY Sports subscriber who also has Multiroom (two decoders), you’ll be able to watch live sports."

http://www.isky.co.nz/
(now that it's up).

Sounds very similar to the UK implementation where you need a) movies package if you want online movies and b) additional payments or multiroom etc to view the Live events.  I.e.  to watch sky sports live in the UK you need both the sky sports addon and either the online subscription, multiroom or (UK only) Sky Broadband... I would expect to not have as many channels as satellite  based sky NZ and probably no HD channels...

(Mauricio you have spelt the word "Building" incorrectly after you remaned this discussion)

I see they have not struck up deals with Telecom or Telstra only the largest and 2nd largest ISP's in the country. That's going to get alot of people annoyed including myself.

Like I said earlier, it's the kind of thing that may make me move ISP.  I'm with TC at the moment and even though they have pimped my connection - 10G is not going to go far!  The same with TVNZ's on demand - come on make domestic traffic unmetered!  Now's good :)

I know they have Ziln, but IMO it's 28 channels of content that's not good enough for broadcast.  I don't know anyone who uses it.
<2c>
If the government/ISPs/TV/Film and anyone else who complains about all the illegal downloads can't provide free/nearly free content - it's never going to stop.  I know people () who would rather risk getting caught downloading last night's "whatever they missed" instead of watching poorly streamed (if available) content which is broken into 5 parts preceeded with adverts that is going to burn their data cap anyway.  While they are there in the sweet shop ........

</2c> phew!

Procrastination eventually pays off.

Seems that are changing what will be available (or at least, what they say will be available).

Earlier today on the isky page

---
What kind of content will be available on iSKY?
A selection of free and rental content will be available when iSKY launches and this will be continuously extended and enhances on an ongoing basis. Content will include:

- Catch Up on SKY Basic channels such as Discovery, UKTV, National Geographic, Disney,
  Nickelodeon and Prime
- Movies currently showing on SKY Movies
- Live Sport
- Live News
---

From looking at the website, I assume this has nothing to do with the ethernet port on the back of the MySkyHDi box ?

Correct. It's on demand Sky content on your PC.

I like the concept of iSyy - how does it integrate with existing media players/centers on windows. Can one record and watch later or is it only on demand from a catalog of programs?

I'm hoping that the platform for Windows Media Centre is similar to the UK one (UK one here) as they both are using the Konitki DRM platform.

website yes, service No
logged in with my SkyID and nothing for iSky available yet

When will iSKY be available?
We plan to launch iSKY in the next few weeks. However more information on launch timings will be made available shortly. If you register early, we'll send you an email letting you know when iSKY is up and ready for you to start watching and keep you advised of developments.

Say I've got MySky at the moment.  I love the PVR aspect as "watching by appointment" doesnt suit me.

If I can do catchup TV on my PC with iSky and I can watch movies at my leisure (rather than filling up the tiny tiny hard drive) on the PC including PPV ones then why would I bother paying $15/mth for the MySky STB?

Seems like a good way to save $15/mth to me.
