Wade: I'm torn.. the service has proven to be an overwhelming success with my 21mo who has commandeered the ipad and thinks that on demand kids programming is just the best, but it is still not enough of a Sky replacement for my household to justify the additional expense or the removal of Sky at this stage. Do live post-sky i will probably need netflix/hulu etc which probably negates any need for lightbox

It actually fills me with more confidence that we could live post-Sky. We currently consume most of our TV via NetFlix & Hulu, and have been thinking of ditching Sky. I've been a little concerned (esp. in light of the whole Global Mode "look over here!" issue) as to how we'd get on if we couldn't access those anymore.

LightBox, while not as comprehensive as NetFlix/Hulu, looks like it could well fill the gap for us if those two services do get blocked. This all depends on how often the content will be updated, of course. But I hope Spark have plans there to keep their viewers interested. :-)

how about getting rid of a bit of sky then?  e.g. SoHo, multiroom, movies etc.  Multiroom is particular is an absolute rort compared to Lightbox.

One question I have about the service is how delayed new content will be. For example, the new seasons of homeland and blacklist premier in the us in late September and early October, will they be available on light box after the season concludes? Or after the season airs on TV here? Or after its available of DVD here?

I'm a Spark customer.  I seem to remember reading that there may be a discount for Spark customers. Unmetered would be fine for me as an alterative as I'm not on an all you can eat plan.  If I was Spark, I'd keep it at $15 for Spark customers and but make the traffic unmetered, that would be a good enough gift I think.

Back to Vikings - episode 7.  Just before I do, I have to say how taken I am by Katheryn Winnick who plays Ragnar's wife.  She has a sort of rugged beauty about her and tinted blonde eyebrows.  She's 36.  I hope my wife looks as good at 36, if I ever get a wife, which is unlikely.

That'll be dependent on the content - some stuff will come directly to our service fresh from US broadcast, some stuff will be a little delayed and some stuff will be second run only - with a gap between NZ premiere and it coming online with us.

Since we acquire content from a wide range of providers, who all have different release windows or existing deals in the market, it's a little bit piecemeal.

There's going to be a Spark special offer available. Details to come.

Any possibility of getting The Trailer Park Boys?  Season 8 is being released "worldwide" on Netflix Sept 5th.

Well, I know now this works as intended:

Also received a confirmation today about the end of the trial:

We're now preparing to launch our service to all New Zealanders on Thursday, August 28, so we will be concluding our beta trial next week.

This means that, from Friday August 22, your log-in details will no longer work and you won't be able to watch Lightbox shows.

Any account information you submitted -- passwords, email addresses, watchlists and credit card details -- will be permanently erased.

The good news is, from August 28, you'll be able to sign up again at www.lightbox.co.nz and begin a new, free 30-day trial. All the shows you've been watching will be there again, plus a few new ones, too. If you've downloaded our free App for iPad, don't delete it, as you'll be able to register your new account to it, once we've launched.

Does this mean Friday will be the last day it works, or the first day it WON'T work? Just checking 'cos Friday is our kids "movie night" and I'll need to download something from iTunes if L/box dies that night :)

We'll most likely take it down Friday afternoon, so you may have to look at other options this Friday. But next Friday, we'll have you sorted again.

is Lightbox at $15 worth it? would you still keep Netflix, Hulu or Amazon Instant/prime?

Arrrrr... can you take it down Saturday morning instead?

Is there any plan to have live streamed TV channels, such as non exclusive stuff like BBC World etc?

Personally I think its worth trying for that, only time will tell if the content is kept fresh and how delayed it is.   If they do get new content, hopefully as it airs, or 1 day after the US.  then absolutely.

also they need to support more devices for playback.   I don't think I'll actually subscribe until I can watch without using a computer (and no I don't have any apple products so airplay is useless, chromecast would be a temporary solution, need to access easily via a remote).

and I'll keep netflix, havent used hulu in ages due to lack of content + ads.
