Jaxson:

More chance of recognising VPL.

Jaxson: I'd like to see some stats on how much each Sky channel is actually viewed.
Dump some of the lesser viewed ones, insist on smart advertisements rather than rebroadcasting each channel 5 times separately, and I'm sure there's space in there...

The problem is some of the least watched crap on Sky like Daystar and others PAY Sky to be there.. they are commercial customers. Sky couldn't care less if noone watches them!

4.  Sky isn't a monopoly. There are many options for TV - including TVNZ, Mediaworks, Sommet Sports, Colosseum, Lightbox, Quickflix (OK maybe not that one tongue-out) Netflix, Hulu - that provide TV programming. And, with broadband delivery, that range is expanding rapidly.

Try watching a ANBL basketball game from NBL.tv and you'll get
"Why is NBL.TV not available in New Zealand?

Due to contractual constraints we are unable to provide a live stream into New Zealand. However matches will be available on Sky Sports NZ."

So no monopoly huh??  Anyone else in the world can watch it on line except us kiwis.  Also the LPGA Golf used to be on Sommet until Ko turned pro and Sky with it's big pockets grabbed it  so once again you have to have sky..   Bet if Ozzy rules become popular it would soon move to sky..

Odd, I set my smart tv internet region  to Australia and was watching some recordings on the NBL app?? hmm?

Hmm, I have recently changed my Smart TV region to other regions to get some alternative apps but usually don't work, I suppose you are using a VPN to watch the content?

Just read what Sky UK are adding to their EPG

Sky adds new recommendations engine to EPG

For those who dont want to click on the link....

"Sky has added a brand new recommendations engine to its EPG.

Designed to offer Netflix-style suggestions based on viewing habits, it will help users get more from their Sky subscriptions.

Recordings stored in the Sky+ Planner will be used to recommend shows available on live TV and on demand.

Users that store episodes of Luther, for example, may find shows like Hannibal or The Blacklist offered as a suggested show for them.

A new 'smart series link' will not only record the entire series of a show currently airing, but also all subsequent episodes."

Come on Sky NZ, let someone who can actually provide some decent content run things - we are all fed up with the whole "small population" "crappy infrastructure and bandwith" arguement.

I had a little Google to see who had a better deal for TV content...us or Sub-Saharan Africa....unsurprisingly.....it isnt us!

Apparently Zap TV in Angola have over 100 satellite channels and heaps more HD content than us...

Zap TV (Angola) vs Sky NZ

So well done Sky NZ - you have been outperformed on the world stage....by Angola!

I don't want no sugar in it - thank you very much

not quite, they offer the service to all portugese countries in Sub Sahara  but based in Angola, and again they can offer it to 40 million people not 4 million .

Common sense is not as common as you think.

My NZ Tivo has had that feature for years.  It even automatically records the things it thinks I will like!

Im sure its not as simple as more people = more HD - it cant be as black and white as that surely??!! Suspect its Sky with their arrogance and assuming that their customers (because there is no sensible alternative) will have to put up and shut up with regard their offerings - or lack of offerings....

Article in NZ Herald today at least shows that Sky is pointed in the right direction, $100 million over 3 years to replace the decoders is the first step toward modern infrastructure and more HD channels.

Wonder if that means they're goin to drop MPEG2 and go 100% to MPEG4??

Possibly not MPEG2 is part of the DVB spec, probably head to h.265 which has significant compression advantages I believe.
