Talkiet: The dodgy streams are lower resolution (Fanpass does try to do up to 720p) but more watchable.

I may know of a private stream that is very good quality. apparently its 1080i/50.

What's this private stream on?

When I saw fan pass advertised, I was hoping it would be a pay per view type service. I would pay $25 per game (cheaper then going to the pub). But I want to pick and choose.

Unfortunately Fan Pass looks similar to sky's broadcast model - I must buy bundles of content, most of which I don't want to watch. And, I can't get the content I most want (AB's) at all.

Does anyone know if the quality of Fan Pass streaming has improved since it launched? Seems to have got cheaper, the F1 is only $10 a race now which is tempting!

I read a review here: https://www.consumer.org.nz/articles/first-look-fan-pass which said that when watching a match or race after the event, as a catch up, there was no way of skipping the build-up chat! Can anyone who has Fan Pass verify this - is there really no fast-forward feature?! Don't really want to sit through the full 1hr 30min waffle before each F1 race if I'm not watching it live...

Just checked the last F1 replay and it apears you can skip forward / backward without issue

Anyone having problems with watching NRL via fanpass today? Continuous buffering and 1 second of playback before buffering again. On a 30Mbit fibre connection with nothing else connected. Buffering on but tablet and computer. ISP Slingshot.

Thanks. No problems when I got back home on my Snap ADSL connection. In the end we used Sky Go which was fine. But no luck with fanpass as at friends house when we tried at half time, just continual buffering with a few seconds of video. Strange as I've had no problem with that connection in the past.

I've been doing some testing on this, and will be doing the ultimate test tonight by having a few mates around to watch the NZ/AU rugby test. As it stands the streaming for me (on Flip/CallPlus/M2 (Slingshot/Orcon)) is coming out of the M2 Auckland Akamai cluster so runs up to the full 5 meg 1080 after a few minutes of buffering. It peaks at about 6.5 meg or so and the quality looks similar to Hulu, not quite Netflix but still good. My 12 meg adsl (best available) means I need to stop the kids using Netflix if I want 1080 on the fanpass stream as Netflix seems to fight for the bandwidth and win, I might need to play with the QOS on the Draytek for that one.

Nice, I would have liked to give this a try for the game over the weekend, but didn't spot this in time. Doh.

How long will that Promo code work? I'm still keen to give it a try, but if there's nothing that I really want to watch on when I do, I'll probably just forget I have it. :)

Howdy - "The promotion code you entered is not valid" with the promo code FANPASSWEEK any ideas, I would be happy with a 1 hour free pass ! just wanna try before I buy - I like the look of $20 a week during the RWC

But if I cant try it, I wont take the risk when I get a VHS looking occasionally laggy stream for free

In addition Fan Pass has 2 contact systems - email and live chat - they did not come back to me after 2 attempts both times, 30 minutes, that was an hour of waiting, I also sent 2 emails but presume it will be days and days, all I want is what they say is on offer - try it out, a small highlights package or similar, disappointed with customer service and am now looking at other options

thats a bit rubbish - the email they sent me said expires 31 August too.. I'm trying my luck with their web chat now to see if they can fix it.

Yeah, I was a bit disappointed when it didn't work. I would still like to give it a go, but am not going to sign up for a week just to try it. Especially when a week is $20. That pricing seems a bit on the high side.
