Trust me, I'm adding value....you are worried about software updates? This company won't exist in five years....your set top box will be rendered useless...no software update will fix it. Much like the print industry, this dinosaur will follow the same predictable path...tell me I am wrong

RickW: Does this work on the nz sky boxes to get the update?

http://www.cnet.com/au/how-to/how-to-reset-and-update-foxtel-hd/

It sure does, tried it last night.

Took a few goes to get the timing right but in the end the update downloaded and installed with no issue. Scheduled and recorded programmes were still all there.

I'm all over this tonight! Nice one. Great find.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

As Sky are emailing people in advance of the update, they must be working on a machine ID based schedule.
If you preempt the update process what will happen when Sky eventually pulls your number out of the hat and pushes the update out to you?

Good point, maybe a pre-check of version before update being downloaded/applied?

You would hope so, but why would they be pre-checking, so sure would they be that you wont have the update yet.

I totally agree with you. There is no way Sky won't exist in 5 years time.

Have just done this myself, After 10minutes of trying to get the right timing.

On a side note, The 'Installer' menu (Setup 40759 select) has quite a few more options now such as Update, and IP checks.

Jase2985: any hints to get the timing right?

I found it wasn't really the second reboot that you had to wait for.

For me the following worked

1. Turn My Sky HDi on -- blue power light should be present
2. Press 'select' and 'back' until it turns off
3. Wait for it to start, power light is a purple colour
4. Perform the "Power", "up" arrow, "down" arrow, and then "Power" sequence straight away

It worked a charm for me.

Good luck.
