Guess the tax payer channels TVNZ 1 & 2 are now helping Sky's bottom line if you want them in HD..

TV1 & 2 will be available on the MySKY HDi platform without paying for the HD ticket, as per TV3. It cannot be otherwise.

Haha, another call to sky, spoke with another team leader.
This time they say it will be free HD content on free to air channels.

Why can't they get this straight with customer service!!!!!!

I guess all we can do is wait for June 1st and see what happens

Fair enough to, why should people who pay the HD ticket subsidise those that don't. It's not called pay TV for nothing, if you want free TVNZ HD get can get it via Freeview if you are in the coverage area. It is something new that has been added to the Sky lineup, why expect it free - doesn't matter what deal was done between Sky and TVNZ, user pays. If you can afford Sky you can afford the $10 extra, Sky is a luxury, not a neccessity. Just my opinion.

Problem is they can never get anything straight, everyone you ever get on the phone from Sky dont even know the time of day, Im sure Sky only pays peanuts to the staff!

Well all going well in 10 mins my myskyhdi box should start picking up TV1/2 HD, I've noticed the EPG program details have been changed to a warning message about the switchover and series link.

tv1 and tv2 hd icon came up on myski at 2 am . i have compared the sky v freeview on a 1080p panel and even on upscaled content there is very little to tell the two apart . tv3 is still a better on freeview for hd content . i do not have the hd ticket . it will be interesting to see whether sky bring up the " record once " warning on tv1 & tv2 like they are doing on tv3.

Wiredr as you predicted, TV1 & TV2 are now copy-protected. I liked to collect some of our NZ shows on DVD. No longer easy.

For those who are receiving TVNZ on HD via MySky, what is the audio format out of interest? Is it AAC-HE as it's on FreeviewHD and if so, I wonder if Sky had the foresight to include that codec in their DVR's or are they transcoding the audio to something the DVR can handle.

On my Amp TV1/2 appear to be the same audio format as the other channels, whereas TV3 is Dolby Digital.

Since TVNZ broadcasts their FreeviewHD platform in AAC-HE LATM audio, they must be transcoding the audio before they re-broadcast on their platform. Or the MySkyHDi boxes are also able to decode this audio format which seems less likely but possible I guess.

If TV3 is in Dolby Digital then I am guessing that signal comes out of the S/PDIF connector on the box. So can you use that connection also for TVNZ HD?

DVBViewer reports them both as MPEG stereo - so transcoding it is...

Yes I see channel 1 & 2 as only 2 channel stereo also. Channel 3 and the movie channels are 5.1 as long as you are connected via an Optical toslink cable.

Sky are probably getting a HD feed direct off TVNZ which they will be encoding themselves. Hence the MPEG-2 audio
