OldWolf2:

The SkyPod does NOT seem to support TVirl app,  does anyone know a workaround or if it is possible to sideload?

I am trying some last ditch things before returning it; the following things are showstoppers:

  • TV1/TV2 not integrated with the rest of the channels

    • They can be viewed in the TVNZ+ app but the quality is poor, and there is no live pause/rewind/restart. And it's not my connection since VTV always showed TV1 in crisp HD and 5.1 sound.

  • The user interface is dreadfully slow, it can literally take 10 seconds for any response to pressing a button on the remote. This is unacceptable and IDK how it ever got through development signoff.

Unfortunately there does not seem to be any alternative device that offers live pause and rewind   (the SmartVU products don't).

Try Sparkle IPTV player. Use Matt Huisman's playlist and EPG.
Personally I ditched the pod and switched to Nvida Shield TV pro running Channels DVR server. Bit of a learning curve but worth the effort.

My pod continues to flick off sky back to the sky menu every day at 2:40pm. Contacted sky and they got me to reset and reattach to my account. Didn't help.

You could set your watch to it. Internet doesn't drop, nothing else on the network has any issues. So darn annoying.

Not looking forward to phoning sky about it as it takes so long to talk to anyone.

I've unplugged my Sky Pod and to avoid a long pointless phone call, I contacted them using their 'chat with an expert' service on their www.sky.co.nz website to cancel my subscription

Waiting and hoping to hear that they announce a disk-free service soon...

Should be ready around 2030.

EDIT: PS. Sadly given the Optus 11 launch delay I don't see any 4K transmission until 2026.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

I ended up using their "chat with an expert" in the end.  They got me to clear some cache and reattach the pod to my Sky account.  Still stops working every day at 2:40pm.  Apparently I now have to phone them.

Is there a chance your router has a timed lease on its connection? (dont quote me on that naming)

I updated my parents Spark router into an Orbi over xmas and everyday at the same time the internet dropped out and i had to restrt it... Found deep in the settings that the IP lease or something was configured to refresh every 24hrs... Unticked that and had no issues since.

Just worth checking as it wasnt a thing until i plugged it into the Orbi.

DHCP end of lease shouldn't interrupt a connection, it just renews the IP lease. However, I have checked the settings and they were indeed set to lease IP's for 24 hours, so have changed it to indefinite to see if it helps.

Can you manually add a IP address to the network settings instead of DHCP in the Pod? not sure on the device settings as I do not have one

Sorry, that wasn't a question but a recommendation to use a Static IP address

This business is a bunch of useless clowns. Still no Sky pod after weeks of waiting and when you call and if you are still on hold after 1 hour they cut you off!

I have Tweeted to them and told them what I think of them!

Absolutely useless!!!

No

Ive had Sky for years, Perfect. Now, if they want to provide true blue awesome internet feeds, then yes, what Ive read here is poor. But there is competition, there must be 20 competing services out there. Sky had a monopoly (thats actually BS), now there is competition so its tough for ALL of them. Let competition rule, that was the mantra of the anti Sky brigade, its now sorted.

Best advice is to can Sky and subscribe to another, of many services. Easy

News on the Sky Box launch today...

The Sky Box costs $200 upfront (plus $15 per month to unlock its ability to record five channels at once), but long-time subscribers will today receive an email detailing a discount.

“Around 75% of our current customers will receive a discounted offer, ranging from $50 off to receiving the new Box completely free,” Sky corporate affairs chief Chris Major says.

“The free upgrade is being offered to our most loyal customers who have been with us for 30 years or more, and it’s great to be able to say thank you in this way.”

Customers will receive details of their personal discount, plus an invitation to upgrade, from today - although not all will receive an email straight away in what will be a staggered campaign.
