Yes, + a $15 monthly fee to be able to record. Saving me a grand total of $5 a month.
There's supposedly a reward going live today so I'm expecting some marketing email in the next few hours.
Ah - as per article here - https://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/sky-tv-reveals-sky-box-discounts/M645FK5VRBHKFCR6LTAFMV6FSA/
The Sky Box costs $200 upfront (plus $15 per month to unlock its ability to record five channels at once), but long-time subscribers will today receive an email detailing a discount.
“Around 75 per cent of our current customers will receive a discounted offer, ranging from $50 off to receiving the new Box completely free,” Sky corporate affairs chief Chris Major says.
“The free upgrade is being offered to our most loyal customers who have been with us for 30 years or more, and it’s great to be able to say thank you in this way.”
Customers will receive details of their personal discount, plus an invitation to upgrade, from today - although not all will receive an email straight away in what will be a staggered campaign.

On My account, if I click on the link to view my offer, it states $50 - a saving of $150.
If I click "add offer to package", It takes me to a new page where I am told I get $50 off and pay $150.
Which is it, Sky?

I was told by customer service that upgrading to the new Sky box, I don't need to pay the extra $15 monthly for recording a month because I have already paid for it by purchasing the HDi Box for around $600
I was actually ringing up to cancel when I was told this and I said that might make me stay but I want to check out the new box anyway and she gave me 2 months at half price off my subscription but looks like they are still charging full price.
I am not paying and additional monthly cost for recording and if you have told me in error, I'll defiantly cancel
Their website is so shite - now the offer appears up but I can only upgrade 1 box. The others are at full price. What the - this cant be that hard.

Last month it said I save $50 and then it disappeared now when I accept offer it says I save $150 so I better do it now before they change it.
If I end up cancelling as the box is shite I've only lost $50
In my case when I logged in a few minutes ago, I was taken to a 404 no_such_page, offered a button to go "Home", clicked that, back to the home page, clicked to go into my account and they're offering a new box at $150.
Not a good user experience to get access to info!
No mention of any monthly fees etc, and no ability to 'trial' the new box for say a month, to see what it's like.
Their offer to me includes going in to a draw to win a new box, as well as 12 month free subscription. I'll try to past the image of the offer here.
Granted it's been through beta testing, the new box is in reality, untested in the real world with real world customers.
I'd like to trial it before committing to a permanent change!

It has had real world customers, VodafoneTV customers (like myself) have been using the box for some weeks. It has some glitches, but it's getting better.

I think he is referring to Sky customers as real world customers!!
More or less yes, I was attempting to refer to satellite box users rather than streaming-only pod users.
In my case, I have a slightly unusual satellite set up, whereby the dish is connected via what was described as a longer than usual cable, sufficient that "special approval" had to be sought from Sky by the installer several years ago before he could do the install due to the cable length.
Thus, part of my desire to trial the new satellite box, is based upon its real-world performance with the dish and LNB, and the long cable. How well does the RF front end of the box's receiver work? I assume it will work better than the existing Pace or Kaon boxes, as newer technology should be better... hopefully.
Put another way, I don't want the annoyance of rain fade issues appearing on a new box when cloud appears, that I have not had before, due to an RF front end that is not as good as it perhaps should be.
I'm sure there will be a fix to a scenario like mine, once the question of who pays how much to fix it is sorted.
And the Sky Box launches today...
The Sky team is thrilled to let Sky customers know that, from today, they have the option to upgrade to the new Sky Box that will transform their entertainment experience.
The new Sky Box offers the best of satellite TV, On Demand and Streaming all in one place, making it easier and faster for customers to find the sport and entertainment they love.
Sophie Moloney, Sky’s Chief Executive, said: “After many months of hard work by the team at Sky, it’s so great to have our cool new boxes in customers’ homes. The new Sky Box is a key part of our strategy to connect New Zealanders to the sport and entertainment they love, in ways that work for them.”
Today is a significant milestone for Sky. The last product launch of this magnitude was in 2007, when the introduction of My Sky transformed the way New Zealanders watched TV.
Sophie Moloney added: “It’s been quite the journey with a few challenging obstacles along the way and I’m extremely proud of the team for all their efforts to get us to this day. It’s an exciting time at Sky as we continue to grow and update our suite of products to ensure that customers have access to our wide range of fantastic content, in ways that work for them.”
The new Sky Box combines the reliability of satellite-delivered linear TV channels with the flexibility of internet-delivered On Demand content and Streaming apps. Extensive customer research informed the development of the Box from day one. Features include the ability to watch Sky TV and stream your favourite apps all in one place, a 1 Terabyte hard drive and the ability to record up to five channels simultaneously on My Sky (a feature that rated very highly in our customer research), and an all-new voice remote.
The new Sky Box costs $200 (a one-off non-refundable fee) or customers can choose to pay an ongoing non-refundable monthly fee of $10 if they prefer.
Loyal Sky customers will be offered special discounts as part of our Sky Rewards programme, with tiered discounts based on tenure. Sky is contacting customers directly with their personal offers over the coming days, and customers can also log into their MyAccount now and view and redeem their discount online
“We have a special group of customers who have been with us for more than 30 years, and they will be offered the new Box at no extra cost, if they would like one.” We know that some of our customers love their Sky just the way it is which is absolutely fine, there is no need to change!
“We’re focused on rolling out the Box to our existing customers first, with new customers to follow in the coming months,” added Sophie.
