It will only work if the quality also improves. Functionally without quality is a waste of time.

Watched the Super Rugby final at a friends - They had a recent samsung smart TV and someone logged that into their Sky Sport Now account with the app and it was pretty close to flawless. Didn't get any real glitches or slowdowns but the ball looked jerky and ghosted when kicked high that I've never noticed which again for me is +1 for Apple TV over the Samsung App at least. I felt the grass had more compression visible too but that might have been their TV as a lot of people with new TV's seem to like driving the brightness and contrast through the roof that can be a little unforgiving. I have my Plasma tuned to a reviewers settings who calibrated his to Dobly or someones standard and I've been very happy with it.

I did an interview / preview  with the Sky UX team for this new interface, so hopefully some of my suggestions made the cut.

The demo interface looked pretty slick

I think they said they were changing stream provider to enable the Android TV play from start, so maybe the performance will be better for those who have that issue.

The multi channel will be a good feature for when I'm cricket / rugby together.

All sounds great. Hoping some of it comes thru to Sky Go - would make sense for them to consolidate the two offerings a bit more.

I do wonder if taking the EPL rights has had to push forward this change. When they said "The broadcaster will show all 380 games of the season live and on-demand on its sports channels and Sky Sport Now service."

Now you have times where 10 games all kick off at the same time so its going to be a hell of a lot of pop up channels and some will need the ability to watch multiple games at once...

Looking forward to some sweet updates on the AppleTV.  I've been pondering canning my annual pass, these updates *could* be something that keeps me signed up ... especially start from beginning!

They can spend all the money in the world updating their apps but until they fix the 25fps issue they will never see a cent of my money.

I honestly don’t understand how anyone can watch it.

My annual pass just renewed without any warning. Thought that was a bit crap really. An email to warn would have been good.

Yeah - I can understand the monthly rolling over but taking a whole year in one chunk without warning is a bit rich. TBH I'd probably miss the email anyway just ignoring it as marketting but still.

What platform do/did you watch on?? I'm not sure what "frame rate" the codec used on Apple TV is but I find it smooth and fluid - The Samsung app definately showed some flicker in progress of a white ball on a dark background on the high kicks but I've never noticed it on Apple TV - I'm not sure if its Apple decoders having better partial frame fillins or if the different platforms run from different encoders at SSN's end but I find the viewing experience on Apple TV to be good. I'm sure if I watched a recent HD Satellite picture from a good broadcast I'd notice the difference but its as good as the last time I owned a sky decoder.

It would be really interesting to hear from SSN whether there are different streams/encoding for different platforms and what they are etc to be able to make informed tech decisions on platforms.

Apple TV 4K 2017 model.

I reckon the 25fps frame rate flicker is like the DLP projector rainbow effect. Some people are just immune to it, and for others its unwatchable. I'm certain if you and I stood in front on the same screen playing the same content from the same source, I would see it and you might not.

My experience with AppleTV has been a bit different. It’s been pretty crappy lately to be fair. I notice yours is only HD though. It’s probably the difference between AppleTV 4k and AppleTV HD.
