Got an email for $50 off. Still don't see the point in paying $150 for something I won't own, and that doesn't do anything that I can't already do myself.
Let me know when 4k sports come and I'll reconsider.
The Sky MyAccount page is throwing 500s for me anyway
Do these new Sky boxes require a card thingy like the old ones?

Chris Keall takes a look at the new Sky box.
So my offer this morning after being a sky subscriber for 10 years is a $50 credit on my account if I sign up for the Sky Starter Package when I order the sky box.
I mean, I have had Sky Starter, Sports, Movies and Mysky for 10 years. I guess that doesn't count for anything...

Common sense is not as common as you think.

And a 12 month contract to boot! Offers in the past that I've got included 3 months free of something etc.
We qualify for a free new Sky box (after 30+ years and numerous failed UHF/DVB boxes). The question is, is it worth having?
If it breaks, I assume Sky will just replace it as they always have?
Asked before, but I haven't seen any replies. Can the new box be configured to accept channel number input from the remote like the old boxes? We watch Sky via a h.264 encoder and tvheadend, so there is a long delay between button presses and anything happening. It's fine for changing channels, but would be unusable with apps.
Have also received the email offering $150 discount after being with Sky continuously since 1994 when they introduced the UHF service to Hawkes Bay. I have had ,for many years, 2 upfront paid MySky units, one of which is a plus.
The offer is apparently only for the first box so replacing the second would cost the full $200. 🤔 Pay them $250 to achieve what? Being able to record 5 programs at once instead of 3 🤣🤣
I use AppleTV’s for everything else except Sky and would have been far more impressed with a decent Apple TV myskygo app than this underwhelming offer and product. I think the only time I would now consider changing to the new box would be if they finally started 4K transmissions and there is no indication that’s happening anytime soon.
All and all a very disappointing offer after 29 years of loyalty.
No email and no login!! Good start😒
What a great system this is.
I’m in a bit of a dilemma.
Should I swap out my (second) multi-room decoder (non recording) and pay $50 to get this new box?
I have a MySkyhdi that I paid $500 upfront for rather than the monthly rental. I would rather hang onto that one for use at the bach (no internet there). But I fear they will try and charge me the ‘MySky’ fee if I have two devices capable of recording. The whole “pay extra for recording capability” is a rort that belongs in the 2000s.
We have 3 4K Smart TVs in the house, so the app side of the new box provides virtually nothing. As does its “4K capability” when Sky provides no 4K content.
I guess I have until the end of June to decide.

now the page is just saying under maintenance and they are working on it , great start Sky

I can remember the CEO of Sky when she first started there saying that Sky's performance and profitability is due to a lot of people using Torrent sites.
If the doors unlocked you can open it!!
