Senecio:

Apple TV 4K 2017 model.

I reckon the 25fps frame rate flicker is like the DLP projector rainbow effect. Some people are just immune to it, and for others its unwatchable. I'm certain if you and I stood in front on the same screen playing the same content from the same source, I would see it and you might not.

I have the non 4k (3rd gen?) - I have a late model Panasonic plasma and I find Plasma tends to be a bit more forgiving at times of compression "flaws" etc. I tend to be pretty picky - I've never seens a DLP projector but always figured I would see it as I always saw the horizontal lines on Sony Trinatron CRT monitors that were supposed to be the rolls royce of screens at the time but we're all different.

As I said - I was quite dissapointed with the flicker on some motion on the samsung TV but that could have been more about the TV. Some people with flash new Samsung TV's seem to like them looking like the showroom mode with everything driven up full and that can be incredibly unforgiving of flaws too.

I got a six month 20% discount and I have to say I feel the platform is good value at $30 where the $40 it normally is always feels a little steep but we're literally a Rugby only household and even then its Canterbury and Allblack matches pretty much exclusively so 2 games a week is the most we'd watch. Can't stomach paying the Sky satellite rates for that. I wish they'd just see if they stopped dicking around with all the temporary discounts for new users that people get and drop the minute they run out and charge an overall fairer price their subscription rate would probably go through the roof.

Hopefully we'll keep seeing improvements in the codecs and bandwidth etc. I certainly haven't seen something I'd put down to bandwidth for quite some time - My wife bitches about it from time to time when it goes blank and I have to point out the graphic overlay is still there so its a site broadcast issue - We see more of that (Australian games especially) than anything from the stream.

Our 2019 samsung tv app, now has a new logo and when you go into the details of the appears to be screenshots of what the new interface and layout will look like. The running app itself is still the old style layout

Any chance of sharing those screenshots? Or an overview of the interface/layout?

For the past few weeks I have noticed the SSN picture is very blocky and rubbish. This seems to be more prevalent on wide fast moving shots across grass.

I set the apple tv to match frame rate and range.

I am connecting via Apple TV 4K to Sony oled tv.

I use Vodafone fibre via Ethernet @ 327 Mbps.

I’m sure it’s not my internet. If I tether from my phone using 4g it looks the same.

I have deleted the app and reloaded it but it doesn’t seem to make a difference.

Frustrating!!!

I just tried it through my laptop. Looks the same! Grrrr!

It froze for me 3 times on Saturday ABs game. Also seems to be really blocky on replays

The bad picture looks like compression artifacts to me on the wider shots with lots of grass. For some reason it appears worse on some of the channels than others.
Eg. The rugby replay last night was bad on SS1. But the tennis on SS2 looked ok.

Same with me.  I dropped it about a year or more ago because of the poor quality (Apple  tv4k, LG Oled, 1gig fibre wired).  Signed up again on Saturday to watch the All Blacks - and immediately unsubscribed due to poor quality, blocking and occasional freeze.

They asked for my feedback on the form when unsubbing, which I gave them.  No follow up though.

It’s really annoying as sky go works a lot better, I am happy to support a nz company but not if the quality is crap. I don’t want a sky dish back on the house I just want a decent streaming option shouldn’t be too hard these days

I don’t understand why they don’t adopt the technology stack used for sky go as everyone says that works really well.

On the EPL news...

"So the Herald asked Sky to put it in black and white. Will it offer all Premier League games on-demand?

"Yes, all 380 games will be live and on-demand on Sky and Sky Sport Now," chief corporate affairs officer Chris Major replied."

Good to know but interested to see how they are going to do on demand "on Sky." Or will I be required to pay out for Sky Sport Now in addition to already having Sky Sport?

You do realise sky sport on satellite decoders already have "on demand" for shows, movies and sport right? Just need to connect the box to Ethernet

At least thats what mine has had for the last 4 years

I see sky sport has yearly deal 365 until the 10th does this mean they are looking at cutting deals on the product and focusing on the new product?

Thanks, no I didn't realise that as I've been using Vodafone TV for Sky Sport so not really up to speed on current Sky box functions.
