I’m in a bit of a dilemma.

Should I swap out my (second) multi-room decoder (non recording) and pay $50 to get this new box?

I have a MySkyhdi that I paid $500 upfront for rather than the monthly rental. I would rather hang onto that one for use at the bach (no internet there). But I fear they will try and charge me the ‘MySky’ fee if I have two devices capable of recording. The whole “pay extra for recording capability” is a rort that belongs in the 2000s.

We have 3 4K Smart TVs in the house, so the app side of the new box provides virtually nothing. As does its “4K capability” when Sky provides no 4K content.

I guess I have until the end of June to decide.

I was told by Sky if I paid in full for the Sky HDi box and then upgrade to the new Sky Box that I didn't need to pay the monthly recording fee, the phone conversation would have been recorded if they try as say that's not true!!

This is the kicker for me. I also paid $600 up front for MySky way back when, if they are going to charge me a higher monthly fee I definitely won't be getting the new box.  I don't mind paying something as a one-off but I have been customer for 20+years so do hope to get a worthy discount.

I might just sit tight for a bit though and listen to some other customers feedback on how the box performs.  I'm still salty about the UI and internet connectivity upgrade they did about 5 or 7 years ago that really slowed the UI.  The original was so snappy.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

It's amazing how a $600 Sky box back then is now replaced/upgradable for $200. The old box had all the connections, the new one only has a few basic ones.

I suppose you pay for what you get!! looks like there are no outputs to other TV's in the house

Any way of seeing when you first subscribed? Can't see history on 'My Account'. I know we have been with Sky a heap of years. I would guess more than 30 yrs.

My offer is a new box for $50. Certainly better than $200.

Dunno whether to fork out. Can't really see any benefit. We control the current box with Harmony-Logitech devices.

We received our offer in the post today. People who have subscribed for 30+ years can get the box for free.

Yes. If I return the MySkyHDi, then I expect the same (no recording fee). That is what my email said

“Your Pre Paid My Sky

Good news! You’ll continue to enjoy your My Sky on us if you upgrade to the new Sky Box.”

But I want to have my cake and eat it too by returning the non-recording decoder when I get the new box and not paying for the outdated concept that the recording fee is.

The household has shrunk considerably since we got multi room, and if I’m honest, we really don’t need two decoders anymore.

I’m wondering if the new box is controllable with a harmony remote?

Its a shame it’s not as good as the Q+ box offered by Sky UK for a number of years now.

Correction: The upfront payment for the MySkyHDi was $600 (I incorrectly said $500).

I have the exact same question.  Will my exiting Logitech Harmony Elite work with this new box?

Well thats strange - offers for long-term subscribers have been removed from the website.
Previously showed $100 - now showing $200.

Any others seeing this?

Yes, + a $15 monthly fee to be able to record. Saving me a grand total of $5 a month.

There's supposedly a reward going live today so I'm expecting some marketing email in the next few hours.

What I would like is this.

Order a Sky Box, keep my MySkyHDi ( for previous recordings and as a failsafe) I.e.if its crap send me a courier bag

Does it still need a dish?

Yes!

Bugger.

The dish rocks. From previous experiences in Sky threads its 1980's tech. But it still rocks.

Just had the misfortune to be on the waiting line for an hour to Sky to upgrade to the new box. Happened to speak to the most unhelpful person who was rude and downright obnoxious. When you have 4 decoders on the house, been a subscriber since 1992 , the customer service was a disgrace. Spoke to their supervisor and told them with both barrels. So with the added $10 onto my already huge subscription I know have a new box on its way by courier …..

Tread with trepidation people …….

emailed Sky to confirm my order went through online for the $150 discount and apparently it didn't and they said I can sort it from here and your discount is $50, I emailed them back with the screenshot of $150 savings and they replied back saying you have only been with Sky since 2009 and we will only discount $100.

I said excuse me I have been with Sky since 1993, still waiting for a reply

So my offer this morning after being a sky subscriber for 10 years is a $50 credit on my account if I sign up for the Sky Starter Package when I order the sky box.

I mean, I have had Sky Starter, Sports, Movies and Mysky for 10 years. I guess that doesn't count for anything...

Ive had it forever, but when we changed houses it was off then on. AS mentioned earlier, gimme the Sky Box, let me keep MySkyHDi before I decide.
