charsleysa:

Their device limit is based on active streams, if you know otherwise then please point me to the correct information because according to Netflix they don't have a strict device limit, they have a limit on how many devices can stream content simultaneously which is different to your policy.

II have used Netflix on more than 5 devices and I've never had to deal with device registration and deregistration.
https://help.netflix.com/en/node/29

It's possible that they removed it, but they may just be managing it in the background, quietly registering and dropping devices as you go along.

Here's the relevant clause from their US terms of use:

  1. The number of devices available for use and the simultaneous streams may change from time to time at our discretion.

Vodafone in the UK recently launched a Netflix partnership and they've put it on their website (register up to 6 devices):
http://www.vodafone.co.uk/shop/pay-monthly/entertainment-packs/netflix/

Anyway, not here to talk about Netflix or their usage rules.

mrtoken: Ok found 2 bugs already

1) I was able to by passing the credit card part and still have an active sub

2) when sending to airplay if you turn the screen off on your ipad the stream stops, you have to leave the screen on which just drains the battery.

1) Pretty sure we've got that one logged already, but I'd be pretty eager to get some details if you're willing to share?

2) It's in our backlog. I agree that it's a nicer experience to persist it.

Please do keep me posted on anything you come across...

freitasm: Actually it seems only Boston Legal S1E1 - I stopped on my laptop and went to the lounge to play via the HTPC and it's spinning on Loading Video. Tried other episodes and it worked.

Season 1 isn't on the platform - you mean season 17? I've just tried on season 17, episode 1 and that works fine here.

If you're having persistent problems with this, please let us know.

Reanalyse: Any idea when Android tablet streaming will be available, and for other Android based streamers such as the Funai TB600FX2.
Also Chromecast. The reason I ask that if you want to sell Lightbox to other than Geekzone (highly technically PC using competent people) then an App for Android is essential.
Good launch by the way, enough material to see the possible range.

We'll be doing Android tablets. I can confirm that much...can't give you a timeline yet, though.

What have you got in the way of documentaries? I'm really enjoying the likes of Drugs Inc, Combat Rescue and the National Geographic catalog on Netflix.

Lightbox: Season 1 isn't on the platform

That's surprising, considering that there's a screenshot of it above :)

embarassed

For some reason I read it as Law & Order. Weird.

Anyway, Boston Legal S1E1 works fine for me. I'd still like to hear it if it's failing persistently for anyone (a local caching issue on the CDN most likely).

Season 1 is loaded, Ep1 working fine here.

BigPipeNZ: I've been on an internal lightbox trial the last couple of weeks. (On bigpipe broadband obviously)

The stream starts faster than netflix, is faster to ramp up to hd, and the scrubbing (skipping forward/backwards x minutes) is virtually instantaneous. Whilst I can't tell the exact bitrate, to my eyes it looks very sharp on both my Mac, desktop PC, iPad Air, and iPad mini.

I guess it's a function of the content being hosted here in NZ rather than pulling it down from LA each time, but it's a significant benefit for me nonetheless. I imagine that those who's connection struggles with netflix, will find lightbox works much better because of the local content hosting.

I would estimate around 5-7 seconds from the time I push play until it hits HD on my Netflix account (Vodafone high speed cable, + Roku 3). How much faster does it need to be?

Btw, I think Lightbox is a great addition to the local market. I won't be switching from Netflix anytime soon but if it opens more kiwi eyes to this type of service it's got to be a good thing. When are you adding sports?

We've got "Factual" as a category, that we're signing deals for.

Is there anyway like Netflix to pick a bitrate for the video playback? :)

Nope. Best quality that we can deliver gets delivered.

Your mobile site is missing the "login" button. Nice UI but content is quite thin on the ground. Sherlock series 1? 30 Rock as the headline comedy? Your Doctor Who icon has the new doctor but then when you click on it it's only up to series 4. House of Cards is series 1, too. Is this indicative of the age of the content we can look forward to in the finished product? Hope not. I really want Lightbox to succeed if only to give Sky a much overdue run for their money. But now that I'm in, I'm not so confident...
