PhantomNVD: AirPlay mirror works, but without 'mirror' on AirPlay only does sound :(

Ah that's disappointing.

Given they have ATV4 support up and running this can only be a matter of minutes away of being fixed. Given the codecs/DRM are the same between the two (ie Fairplay etc).

Any comment @Lightbox/@PaulfromLightbox?

When I asked here recently the reply read between the lines that it's very soon and presto ATV4 was here days later.
I feel it's close.

Heh... that was my very strong hinting that you read between the lines of I do believe... and it did turn out to be right.

Ah well, like a year and counting at this point - I guess we can survive a while longer without Airplay if it hasn't killed us at this point.

It was around September last year so you have a while to go to get to a year yet ;-)

Bad news, I still won't sign up until they have a native App for my ATV4.

Was considering shifting my broadband and phone to Spark, but have signed up with 2degrees for another 2 years because they had a better deal

the free lightbox was not  consideration as it was not a native app.

That's brilliant news - thanks for the heads-up. I've so little use of my six month free sub (from signing up with BigPipe) due to the absence (removal) of Airplay support, and there are a number of programmes I've been holding off watching for this, eg Mr Robot, and a Scandinavian series a few people have mentioned here.

They've had a native Apple TV 4 app since the beginning of May.

A native app's that important to you??!!

Given Airplay's the only way of watching BBC (via the ATV3, that is), I'm used to and ok with this approach. In some ways I like using the iPad as an (initial) interface, eg it's a lot quicker searching for content.

Yes, because I do other things on my devices while I watch TV.

I also take my iOS devices with me to work, so if my partner is at home, she can not watch.

If it is not a native ATV4 app that allows me to watch, then they may as well not bother because they have lost my interest.

This is why Netflix gets my money, and lightbox/neon etc don't.

I will also be looking at getting around the geoblocking and setting up UK/US accounts for various things.

Geo-unblocking is NOT piracy, I am paying for the content. and just as local book sellers dont get their cut when I import books, the local monopolies can miss out too for my TV viewing.

You might want to calm down and search the app store then... it's been out for a few weeks.

Poor Lightbox, they give the man exactly what he wants and they still can't get $12.99 out of him....

In seriousness though - Lightbox have had a native Apple TV 4 app for a while now. Check it out on the App Store. It's pretty good (not perfect, but it more than does the job).

Yep. If the contents suit your needs its great, if not its meh. Same for NF or Neon, or Sky or FTA.

Dear god, please don't let this thread descend into yet another geoblocking/piracy debate!

As for the Airplay functionality on the new Lightbox app - put it to good use last night to watch the first 2.5 episodes of Preacher (weird but kinda cool), and it worked perfectly. Good to be able to turn the screen off! (when initially released back when GZers were being used for testing prior to wider release, Airplay was fairly rudimentary and buggy).

That said, there's one reason why I may not end up subscribing to Lightbox - the lack of 5.1 surround is seriously disappointing compared to the sound available via Netflix. I'd hoped they'd have sorted that at the same time as the Airplay issue, given I understood they had to re-encode all their video content.

Please stay on topic here.  There is enough threads that have turned into general discussion about streaming services.  Please lets not have another.
