We're kind of veering off topic, but I don't, and never will, think that sports players (or musicians.. or actors.. or CEO's) should be paid the stupidly large salaries some of them get. If professional sports players were paid sane and reasonable salaries, the costs would be far lower.

This hits it squarely on the head. Whether Sky or any other provider is being greedy or not, the problem starts with the idiotic prices being charged for 'rights' in the first place. That just gets passed down the line.

Anyone know what's happening with The Pirate Bay?  It's been down for several days for me, but I can't see anything on TorrentFreak other than this non NZ specific article from the 7th November

There is a post from the 1st of November that explains this. Many can access it fine but others see a Cloudflare error.

I made a principled decision long ago to stay away from illegal streams and sites but I also like to keep up with developments. I just checked isitdown and got the down for everyone reply. Then I checked the site and it loaded normally. I browsed around a little to make sure it was actually working, but didn't download anything. Try it. I didn't have any problem at all, no mirrors, nothing like that, just the regular site with my regular DNS server. Works fine.

I don't really think of myself as a hardcore pirate lol.  Until very recently I'd paid the monthly "content tax" to Sky for decades, but simply download everything I watch rather than watch it on their platform, because their platform (and the other content providers) just don't provide a good enough platform. Downloading content lets me watch things in my own time, on the devices I want, at the time I want, in the resolution I want, without restrictive DRM, without advertising be that "commercials", trailers for other shows, or up-selling to extra content packages etc. None of the commercial offerings in NZ are anywhere close to offering that sadly.

Is says it’s down on is it downrightnow for me, but I can access it directly, so maybe it’s blocked where is it downs run from.

For people that say they wouldn’t trust anything from Pirate Bay, I’ve had no problems.

I pay Sky , but then through Pirate bay get a better service, HD and Dolby digital, if Sky puts a program on Sky 5 you can’t even pay them to get it at that quality.
I’m actually wondering if I’m being silly paying Sky, when I don’t end up watching it through them, all I’m doing is giving them more money for their lawyers.

Neon, picture better quality but no DD5.1

Seems Sky wants Pirate Bay blocked so they can keep providing TV at a sub standard quality.

I’ve gone back to digital rental only, but I asked person on phone when canceling start up to pass on reason Sky 5 not HD (a lot of zone programs went to Sky 5, they were HD on there) , they probably know it’s falling on deaf ears though.

Wonder when court case is ?
