Do we know if the Winter Olympics will be broadcast in 4K on SKY? I don't recall any announcements beyond the Ashes and AO, hopefully we don't have to wait a long time until the next 4K event.

Winter Olympics wil NOT be 4k.

No. Channel 252 is 4K tennis channel. Channels 608 through 619 were HD only. Normal Sky Sport channels 51 etc. were HD.

EDIT: Yes there was a delay on 252, was behind SkyGo.

EDIT: I'm now assuming you mean the feed was via Internet rather than satellite. I have no idea. Will test recording 252 tonight.

Channel 252 cannot be recorded and is being sourced from satellite.

The Aus Open 4k popup is being delivered over IP only (just like the HD AO popups) so can't be recorded.

AO on 252 (4K) and channels 608 to 619 (all HD), 13 channels total.

so is channel 51 Not 4k, even though the channel name is Sky Sport 1 4K UHD

Most events on 51 are upscaled from HD. Native UHD content has a UHD specific bug.

My understanding is 51 is UHD on Sky Box, but not on Sky Pod, so you have to use 251/252 on the Pod.

Channel 51 has had no 4K UHD bug on any games (I only have HD TV on Sky decoder) so I was assuming 4K content was on channel 252 - has 4K UHD bug. Given that 252 content is a duplicate of 51 wouldn't make sense to have 4K on both.

Just round at my parents who have the sky box. Channel 51 no uhd bug, only 252 has it and 252 is streamed.

i was under the impression on the sky box it was broadcast via satellite and not streamed?

Sky is doing popup channels for special events over IP streaming.

Sport 1 (51) takes the world feed, which is HD. 252 is a dedicated Rod Laver Arena popup, which is the only UHD feed.

Says it here: https://help.sky.co.nz/s/article/4K-UHD#ao

Note that if you’re watching AO on Sky Sport 1 UHD, this will be an upscaled World feed – the World feed isn’t available in 4K UHD.

To find AO in 4K UHD, you can do any of the following:

  •

    • Click on one of the tiles on the Home Page or Sports Page.
    • Use your remote to type in Channel 252.
    • Find the AO channel in the Programme Guide (you’ll also see other AO court feeds on a couple of different channels but these won’t be in 4K UHD).

A couple of things to remember about 4K UHD programming:

  •

    • You’ll be able to watch instant replays for up to three days after an event ends.
    • Highlights will only be available in HD (not 4K UHD).
    • The new Sky Box won’t let you record 4K UHD programming that’s broadcast via a pop-up channel (this restriction applies to all internet-delivered channels).

Kinda bizarre they've put the HD feed on the "Sky Sport 1 UHD" channel.. but anyway

That's really unfortunate considering a lot the Olympics events are filmed in 4K.

Maybe we'll see some Super Rugby in 4K
