Regarding the "On selected broadband plans only. Contact broadband providers for details".

Taking a stab here, Farmside satellite and Vodafone Mobile Broadband would be excluded, due to obvious system limitations that aren't really addressed by Kordia's CDN

Im picking this disclaimer only excludes certain delivery methods, rather than excluding it from cheaper broadband plans.

Having said that, slingshot's $30/month plan would be a prime candidate for exclusion as well

3lchoco: 2 weeks seems to have come and gone - Any updates on this service ?

Just got an email from them asking me to register for iSky.  Click on the link which has a button to create a Sky ID and activate the account.  This took me to the SkyID sign-on pages I already have an activated ID, so I logged in as per normal.  No mention on iSky on subsequent pages so no idea if I'm now registered or not.

I already have a SkyID and it's not even clear what you do after you sign in or how to register for iSky..

From memory it is only Xtra and Telstra that are excluded due to being competitors.  And I don't think it will be only on premium accounts, national data does not cost ISPs anything.

I do noy think they should be excluded but telecom would be silly to sign up as they have a stake in tivo doing well and I can only guess telstaclear was not offered anything because they already stated they will not do it for free.

I aim to misbehave.

Do you have an update on Tivo numbers in NZ?  Did Telecom drop the price because it is doing so well or because they wanted to P off all those that stumped up the big dollars to start with?

Telecom wont sign up - they havent re-signed for resale of Sky to Telecom customers so doubtful.
And Telstraclear could offer something directly to its customers by using its own HFC network complete with its unexploited ondemand capability.

I found the testra clear link to back up what I was trying to say http://www.stuff.co.nz/technology/digital-living/4121239/TelstraClear-tells-Sky-Television-there-will-be-no-free-lunch

LOLOLOL classic Telstra attitude... "Let's charge the people whom provide the content which is why our customers pay us in the first place to access". Double dipping bastards.

If I were Sky (or Orcon) I'd route all iSky traffic out of the US for Telecom/Telstra customers as:
a) They don't have to pay Telecom/Telstra for the privilege of providing a service to Telecom/Telstra's customers
b) I get to Lol at Telecom/Telstra having to pay the international transit costs because of their arrogance.

DS9: I do noy think they should be excluded...

Sorry, I meant free data except (i.e. excluding) for Telecom and Telstra customers.  Yes, because they want to promote their investments.

Limiting access to competitors products is usually only required if your competitor offers a better product.  You actually want your customers to have access to the competition to show you have a better product.  And if your product is not as good, then you should be improving it.

Sorry, I meant the exclusion from free data. The context of the disclaimer on the sky website "On selected broadband plans only. Contact broadband providers for details" was about free use of the service without it counting towards your data cap.

So I do not think iSky traffic will be excluded from your data cap if you are a Farmside satellite customer or have Vodafone mobile broadband. While the CDN distributes the content around the country, the primary costs/limitations with satellite & 3g are not backhaul.
