She was previously Sky's spokesperson on this site (and for social networks in general) and is up to her proverbial neck in S*i* ^H^H^H iSky.

Ha ha, very good. I will use that in future.

Does anyone on the beta know if the discovery channel is streaming? I've seen conflicting details from Sky on this.

Benoire: You'll only have to pay for multi-room if you want the live stuff, it operates the same as the UK system where multi-room gives you live feeds (essentially online is the same as multi-room, even though content is currently less) and normal sky will give you access to the on-demand subscription stuff.

I don't get this model at all, surely if you subscribe to SkySports you should be able to watch live sports on iSky, seems a bit pants to me that you have to pay for multiroom

It is complete pants, I don't agree with it at all.  However, the UK subscription model is netting BskyB (who own part of NZ Sky) a lot of money and I don't expect them to do it differently.  They simply see that providing net access at the same time as via the dish is 'multi-room' even though the content is considerably less via the internet.  There might be some rights holder issues that we will never know about that force this route, but my experience of Sky worldwide is one of greed so I'm simply putting it down to the fact they can.

There are currently only 5 channels streaming and this is what will be live at launch I believe:

CNN
SkyNews
Sports1, 2 and 3

To watch any of the sports Channels live you have to have multi-room.

after looking through some of the pay to view products i can see where they might get away from charging $6.99 for some movies but to charge $2.99 for TV programs like Gary unmarried, 16 and pregnant, Cupid . Garry Unmarried is a 20 minute comedy and who would pay $3.00 to watch a 20 minute program that has just screened on free to air TV.

BSkyB dont own any part of Sky NZ.   News Corp owns interests in both and Foxtel, Sky Italia and Sky Deutscheland

Sorry my bad, News Corp owns a very large stake (approximately 40%) in Sky UK, hence the involvement in the similar processes for the internet based system here.

Were it so true then such products would be rolled out in NZ much faster than they have in the UK and Australia.  That they have a common shareholder should also imply lower development costs.

And yet...... no.  Each is an island (or fiefdom) unto itself.  However the similar processes are also similar to other markets (with no common shareholder).

IMHO the premium content (sport) is desirable and the best way of extracting coin for streaming sport is to force subscribers to pay for multi-room.  All the while they can still claim that iSky is free for existing subscribers with those packages.  Agree that its a total rort.

Have just made my feelings known via their latest survey, particularly about the multiroom/sports subscription.  At least the whole iSky thing seems to have some traction now.

Although given:
*The subscription thing
*It no being particularly clear whether content is free
*The above not leaving much there to view for me
I'm not sure I'll be a frequent user.  Their whole 'it will be free to existing subscribers' pitch is becoming a bit farcical IMHO.

Sometimes I use big words I don't always fully understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.

I would suggest that "the whole multiroom thing" is not going to go away - and will continue to be a major sticking point for customers and a factor limiting the uptake of iSky in the near future.

iSky (streaming live channels) effectively removes any need for a customer to have the Multi-Room service.  At $25/mth, with a significant number of subscribers, Multi-Room will represent Multi-Millions in Revenue for Sky, and they're not likely to launch a 'free' service that also kills off a major cash cow if they can avoid it.

Hmm, I don't agree that watching live streams on a PC/Laptop etc equates to a 2nd decoder outputting to a TV but that'll never stop Sky charging as if it is

The new TV's have built in streaming for youtube etc. I currently have mine setup to watch tvnz and tv3. So you wont have to be watching on a notebook or PC.  isky would be the same, and there would be nothing stopping me from using it on a second tv, which the primary tv uses the decoder.

I assumed a lot of already aired Sky content is available for free on iSky, such as Prime, Doco channels, News channels, Sports. Is this not going to be he case?
