Struck:

..

I have been with Sky for 17 years and also only have a $50 saving.

I think their records only go back 15 years, they told me I sign up in 2009 when in fact I sign up in 1993!!

I found an email from 2007 but had it since 2005 or 2006. I wonder if they reset it if you change address. It also looks like might be missing out on other rewards which are based on length of service.

In any case I think I will wait to upgrade. It sounds like it is not ready yet. This is from the site when you go to sign up The following features are not currently available on the new Sky Box: Pay Per View, Sky Box Office, remote recording, closed captions and alternative audio. We are busy working on them and they will be delivered in subsequent product updates, for more information please see here

SKY, just give your subscribers that wants the new box for free so they will continue to pay the monthly subscriptions, I know how much you are paying the supplier for them and it's not $200

Looking through the comments from others....what a catastrophic mess! Let me add to the story...

Firstly, I have had Sky since mid 1994. So I would miss out (just) on the 30 year discount people have been talking about but was surprised to only get offered the $50 discount on the upfront cost. As someone pointed out, their records may not go back very far. In my case, there was also a short period when I paid for Sky via Vodafone NZ. Of course I have bank records going back to 1994......

The $50 discount is obviously an insult. I started with Sky UHF, went to Digital, then MySky ($600 up front), Sky+ ($150 swap price) with a package that includes Starter, Entertainment, Sport, Movies and Rialto. Oh yeah. I have their Broadband too........

......you'd think I was a reasonable customer eh.

Sky have been plugging the new box on their Facebook channel. I'm quite confused about the recording charge ($15) so ...well look at this....

So now I'm REALLY confused. I also asked if Movies offered Dolby 5.1 (at least). No reply on that one....

Today's email is also confusing. On the issue of keeping the Sky+ Box I'm obviously not at all keen on paying for multiroom and was surprised my email had this statement

.......but later in the same email it says......

"If you choose to keep your old Sky box as a multiroom option, it will still have all your recordings. "

eh?

So my friends, it"s going to be a rough ride....

Steve

My account is showing full price, so no discount. Not keen on paying the $200.

I've had Sky for at least 12 years. Same address and same account name for all these years.

Yes, $200 is an outrage. It's almost like they want to stay in business and be profitable, perhaps recoup some of their upfront costs related to research and development!

The chances that someone isn't prepared to pay $200 upfront for an entertainment box (when Shields, and AppleTV's cost considerably more) but be happy to pay the monthly subscription, are low. If $200 is too high of a barrier for entry, then that customer is likely just going to move on.

They wouldn't lose much that way.

Like others, I want Sky to clarify the $15 storage charge. Why are they doing their best to obfuscate the issue?

If they mean any storing will mean $15 per month why don't they say so? Are they embarrassed, (as they should be)?

Even the answer quoted by bmr63 above is open to interpretation.

Maybe I missed a clear answer?

@Apsattv Really you had to ask that? You think they are going to release new hardware with a mechanical drive in 2023

No it is going to be released with a 1TB Quantum bigfoot mechanical drive

Here's the breakdown of Tenure Customers Rewards Offer.

  • 30 year's - FREE new Sky Box (Upfront Only)
  • 15-29 year's - $150 off (Upfront Only)
  • 10-14 year's - $100 off (Upfront Only)
  • 5-9 year's - $50 off (Upfront Only)
  • 5 year's below - No Discount

A friendly reminder, MyAccount allows you to submit an order.

This is borked for me.  I fall into the 2nd category in this list and it shows up for $50 to buy in 'my reward' offers, but when I go to add it, it doesn't actually let me.  It shows my package on the right hand-side as it currently is and the 'Review Order' button remains grayed out.  In saying that:

  • I haven't acutally received an invitation to buy email yet from Sky, maybe they're staging the offers and roll-out
  • It's probably a good thing.  My impatient self could well have placed the order whereas the sensible me, as described in a few posts above, should wait and find out about other people's experiences to see if the box is actually any good.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

I assumed when they said

”You can keep your My Sky”

what they meant was pay for the new box, surrender your current box and continue with what you currently pay. That is, the “My Sky” they refer to is the record/playback and download to watch later functions, rather than the physical box itself.

What would be really handy is a subscription configurator that you could set up for your own account to see what you will actually pay. When I tried to log on to my account, it failed.

If you are having issues with My Account try emailing them help@sky.co.nz and they can set it up on their end.

I know a senior who is holding on to their box for dear life because he has learnt how to work it and he is tech scared. It was an original black sky box which he can record on for free. He was given the Vodafone TV deal when he signed up for broadband. He switched to paying to Sky when VF ended.

Will he be able to keep his old box and ignore buying the new pod etc or will he e forced to change.
