As I already have Sky with the Sport subscription there's a marginal saving to subscribe to Sky Sport Now if I were to cancel my Sky TV sports package. As both packages will be the same, and I'm happy with the current set up with my Sky box doing the recording - is there any point changing?

No.

I did it as I never watched anything on the other sky channels, either FTA or streaming services.

No, image quality is superior on the satellite feed and you can record anything, and not be bound by when or if SSN will give a full replay

I would change if streaming sports was same quality as satelite feed to save some dollars.

Since sky makes you have starter + sports and then you might have my sky for recording and playback that about $80/month or $960 yr

With streaming apps and tv on demand I really only need to subscribe for sports so SSN at $400 yr would save you some good coin

One thing I would say is the my sky playback functionality is good…you can easily do speedy tv for fast forwarding precisely through all the adds and start stop exactly when you want to. With the apps I haven’t been able to do this with my equipment…not sure if anyone else has a solution for this…plse let me know.

How do you do that?

With my sky box when you fast forward you can go at several speeds …top is 30x I think.

But the best thing is you can clearly see the live images as you fast forward so you stop fast forward and start to play normal speed exactly when the ad finishes…hence I call it speedy tv…i quite often record say the one news which is 1 hr…but by fast forwarding thru the ads and any boring stories you can watch 1 hr of tv in about 40 mins

Its probably the best thing about sky is the ease of that box. The satelite service is pretty simple you just turn it on and it works.

Im sure that why a lot of people stay with it even though sky force you to pay for a whole lot of shit you don’t want.

Ah ok, I read your post in that it stops exactly after the ads, as if it was a feature I wasnt aware of. Yes the box works well, but I often want to FFW a long time, so the 30X is then a bit of a pain

I "bought" the Sky box when it first came out so just have the Starter and Sport and pay $61/month. My wife records all sorts of programs from the Starter package so the box comes in very handy. Spark Sport is a PITA trying to fast forward to the main event like F1 with takes forever to get to the start. I cancelled Spark as soon as the EPL finished but they still have Champions League and hoping Liverpool will win it again this season.

My Panasonic TV (3y/o) just got an update and saw the Sky Sport Now on the Apps so tried logging in and it wouldn't go. I thought I'd be able to just log in but no, have to pay for a new subscription.

You can just specify the number of minutes you can fast forward to. Like recording the TDF that may take 6 hours, you can type in 240 minutes if you just want the last 2 hours.

Fishb8…if you want to try the SSN app just sign up for a mth or annual pass and you get a free 7 day trial. You can cancel anytime before end of period and they won’t charge you sub.

Ive just done this…SSN put a $1 charge against my credit card but assume that will get reversed…a bit like fuel pumps..just making sure that when they want to take your money they can

If you already have a sky box and sky sports why were you trying to access sky sport now?

Does anyone know if my son in Wellington (I'm in The Tron) could log in to the SSN streaming app. He will be able to watch EPL on SkyGo and I watch EPL  on my sky box whenever I want.

With Spark, only one log-in at a time could watch so I'd txt son as soon as I'd finished watching the game.

edit - I thought I'd be able just to watch it but didn't know it's a different entity. Now realise SSN isn't much use to me as long as Sky TV continues to support satellite viewing.

I think so ..from the SSN faq page

With your SKY Sport Now account, you can access SKY Sport Now on multiple devices but you can only stream on one device at a time. If there is more than one device the first device will stop streaming.

When I had sky, I thought there was a feature on my sky to jump to whatever time you wanted. This has to be done from the recording info screen, and choose start position, NOt sure if it was removed in an upgrade.

found this in their guide.

I'd use it to get close enough, then ffd / rwd as required.
