Shadbolt:

cleggy2: Hopefully someone can confirm the remote still works with the new skybox

I can't promise anything, but on the New Sky Box, you can go:

My Hub

Android Settings

Remotes and Accessories

And under that is an option called Add Accessory. When clicked, it talks about making sure your new accessory has BT enabled.

Doesn't look good for my non BT Logitech remote

It the laggy response that drives me insane.

Want to watch something that finished a little over an hour ago? Good luck with that. Everytime I think I've got it mastered........

Took me 20 minutes to get to the 2nd half interview of Musk by Carlson yesterday. I could've likely found it on YouTube quicker.

What happens when you hold the remote right up to the device? does it still lag?

That's the primary reason why it's been rejected in our household, it's just painful to use.

Out of curiosity, I just blew the dust off my Pod and plugged it into my computer monitor. It did an immediate software update of something, but the Sky Pod software version number remained the same (v11.7.3215), so I don't know if there has been any updates of the actual Pod software yet? It certainly still won't even come close to passing the usability test for my partner. A quick (or rather, slow) jaunt around the Programme Guide was as sluggish and frustrating as ever. Maybe I'll get some other software update if I leave it plugged in tonight?

Hold everything, I spoke too soon! Another restart, and the Pod software version has updated to 11.7.4666.

It does seem a little faster. Hurrah! But still not fast enough. Boo!

Are you talking about the Pod, and navigating to something that finished an hour or two ago, via the TV Guide?

If so - I've just tried that, and it took about twenty seconds to start watching something on UKTV from early this arvo.

Can you give an example of what is on the screen, and what remote buttons you are pushing when it takes a long time to respond? I'm wondering if I'm just doing different things with my Pod which don't show lag.

Also - is it possible that you have some interfering carrier in your house which is squashing your remote's BlueTooth signal?

robertsona:

My new Sky box was delivered earlier this morning, less than 24 hours after doing the upgrade request - which is bloody good for an AKL to CHC courier package of any sort.

So, a few first impressions:

Upgrade request, delivery, unboxing experience and set up have all been very good. It does look like Sky have been putting some effort into improving the customer experience (as they should).

The user interface, menu structure and remote control for watching and recording TV is a huge improvement (as it should be, the previous Sky box UI was a decade or two out-of-date).

Being able to add Android apps is great. I now have Kodi running on the box and can now ditch the separate Mi Box and extra remote.

Bluetooth remote means the box can now be hidden away in the cabinet.

However, for those so inclined, there will be plenty to snipe at... e.g. low-res icons, channel change slowness.

On the whole, it's not at all perfect, but I'm pleased with the improvements. (But as others have pointed out, it's now got to where it should have been years ago)

From the ads its Sky Go or Lightbox?

HDMI Spitter doesn’t work with new Sky Box, so cant output signal to second TV in another room!

It's not a remote problem -- the volume button works fast , and the buttons work instantly in the TVNZ app .

The laggiest operation is pressing the Guide button , which gives no response or feedback for about 4 seconds (or longer if you were on TV1). I have had it take over 10 seconds in the past . The "Live TV" button has a similar delay . The guide is sluggish, can be about 1-2 seconds between button presses and response, and the TV audio doesn't play while the guide is on.

Wish I knew that before ordering the new Sky box, so it's back to the RF modular then to get the other TV's to work with SKy?

The Skypod is definitely faster to navigate than when I first got it about a month ago.

Also the voice search now searches the Sky channels as well as the google world and presents it for viewing quickly whereas previously I could only get it to work in Youtube app

I was going to cancel Sky but decided to give the new box ago but now my mind is made up.
