So I skimmed the 55 thread pages and now agree with the many who've concluded that the money would be better spent on beer or chocolate.

Horses for courses. It depends on what your needs are.

For us - we want to record stuff on some channels that aren't available to us outside the Sky environment.

We don't watch live stuff.

We have the couch in front of the TV with the box directly connected to the TV.

We stream stuff that is available via apps on the box.

So for US, it's a perfectly fine one-stop shop.

I have no idea if we are in the minority amongst Sky customers, or if we're in the majority.

I have 40 years as an engineer under my belt (half of which was working in TV) and I find the box's UI to be acceptable. Not perfect, but acceptable. Ours isn't laggy like some folk are reporting.

As always - YMMV.

Given the cost of the new Box, the performance issues people have been reporting (which seem to be improving….slowly), and the low number of outputs available on the box, I’m reluctant to give up my Sky+ Box at this time!

I would appreciate it if someone who actually has the box could confirm if it’s producing Dolby Digital/DTS 5.1 audio on Sky Movies. MUCH earlier posts created doubt in my mind that this was available. If it’s not doing that, well that’s an absolute show-stopper for me.

I’ve asked Sky, but they won’t reply.

cheers

Steve

I came from Vodafone TV with Sky channels subscribed through Vodafone. We had to give up our recording ability few years ago when we got the "new" VTV box. THe new VTV box (if I recall right) let you have a 3 day buffer in which to watch a scheduled program. There was also serials that you could watch. I can't really recall as I am not the main viewer of TV. We could have gone to Sky if we really wanted recording ability but we stayed and recording ability actually became not important.

I got the POD as we wished to keep SKY channels and did not want a satellite dish. We never watch free to air so the fact that 1,2 are not in the EPG is irrelevant.

So for US as well it is also OK. The UI seems to be getting better and more importantly the main viewer is a happy camper (though she is still yearning for VTV).

We are pretty much in the same boat (although we do watch Ch.1 & 2 every now and then, so we just flick on the Apple TV for TVNZ+ for that. ((pain in the butt but manageable)

I just cant believe that VTV was the best service for the past couple of years and now we have gone backwards and theres no real other option.
I now pay more per month for a worse TV experience.

Slowly getting used to the slow menu changing but i would pay them an extra $10 a month just to get 5.1ch audio!!! Screw the video recording. Just give me a decent quality Audio and picture.

Just this minute come off live chat with Sky TV regarding my ‘ pending ‘ order for the the new sky box, seems to me they’ve massively underestimated the demand for the box since Wednesday. On my account it says the order is bring processed, they hasn’t changed for 48 hrs now and I’ve just been advised/ told that disbatch of the boxes can be as much as a week

Frustrated as their customer service personnel aren’t being told anything regarding these new boxes

Read on here that some got their boxes within 24 hrs of placing their order , even as far away as Christchurch ….. really ???

So my "offer" as a valued member is $150 rather than $200. Plus I need to pay extra each month for using the DVR function? No wonder Sky is struggling with their various, ridiculous add-ons. In Canada I had digital TV with 5 concurrent HD recordings in 2008 or 2009. $5 a month for a second box with the same functions. Over 200 channels from which to choose, including a lot of international ones.

Sorry, you're saving $150? Or the box will cost you $150 instead of $200 (so a $50 saving)?

I rung up to cancel my subscription and they offered me 2 months at half price saving of $51-49 and the box offer was $50 so they paid me $1-49 for the box, so eat your heart out.

I have added Sky movies via the online web portal (my account) and got an email confirming the purchase but can't watch any movies. GUI tells me I am not subscribed

I thought this would be instant once purchase is confirmed even got a email confirming the purchase
