Jiriteach:

So after placing my upgrade order on Wednesday and recieving an email confirming the order - I checked with Sky today (after a painful wait) and they said they cannot find an order! Sigh.
Had to re-submit the order today via the website.

I do see that my account on the website is now showing pending order whereas before it didnt so best to check that your account if showing pending if you have submitted an upgrade order.
Guess the website crashes has caused issues. I thought it was all good given the success confirmation email but that was incorrect.

Clearly, despite the historical anti Sky rage, its very popular, hence high demand. I read they were staggering this release. But again, HIGH demand. Id just apply and wait. Me, my MySkyHDi just works, for years, I have little interest, so ill wait and watch the feedback.

Any new release has these issues. Technical or high demand, its not new. Spark Sport gets rave reviews, but remember the release. Teething issues so it was crap. Thats more impatience than reality.

Can someone please confirm that you can't record anything without paying the record fee?

If you paid up front years ago you don't have to pay the fee as I understand it.

I know that doesn't quite answer your question.

Thanks, anyway!

Just hard to figure out why there doesn't seem to be a clear answer.

@linw

I was told by Sky that I don't need to pay the extra $15 per month for recording as I have already purchased the box back then for $600

What is your situration with upgrading?

Who ever thought of charging customers $15 extra per month to record should be reprimanded if it was the CEO that decided to proceed with it should take another look.

You want to encourage subscribers to change or come onboard so you can reap your monthly subscriptions which is $51.49 at minimum per subscriber.

I don't how many people have decided they are not going to pay the extra $15 per month so that's a lost of at least $617.88 per year per subscriber

The Sky boxes should be given out for free on a 12 month contract or $200 no contract, but still discount your loyal customers.

Give these options a go and see how you get on!!

It would be lovely if they cut subscription costs by $15 per month and gave away new boxes at a total cost probably in the tens of millions of dollars, but unfortunately the numbers don’t stack up.

Sky NZ is not (and probably never can be) a hugely profitable business. They have a very small market with no significant potential for growth in customer numbers. Content is expensive to buy, and costs are only getting higher. Their net profit currently amounts to less than $60 per customer per year. Gaining and/or retaining loss-making customers is not a winning strategy.

I’m sure Sky can survive for the foreseeable future, but not if they start cutting prices and giving away hardware for free to everyone.

I didn't pay the $600 up front.

I just think it is a cheek to have to pay $15/mth for something that doesn't cost them anything.

What is the range of the Sky Bluetooth remote?

Been Googling

Range Depends On The Class Of Bluetooth

Class 1 devices transmit at 100 mW with a range of 100 meters or 328 feet. Class 2 devices transmit at 2.5 mW with a range of 10 meters or 33 feet

Hopefully it will work ok 15 meters away in another room

I have a pair of Bluetooth EarPods with a USB Bluetooth device attached to my computer and when I'm 5 meters away it stops working

It would be great if it was wi-fi

What is the navigation like at that distance?

The remote uses IR for the initial detection then BlueTooth for the media commands. It does not use WiFi. If its s Bluetooth 5 then ..

The official Bluetooth marketing material from the Bluetooth standard organization advertises that Bluetooth 5.0 has four times the range, two times the speed, and eight times the broadcasting message capacity of older versions of Bluetooth. Again, these improvements apply to Bluetooth Low Energy, ensuring devices can take advantage of them while saving power.

Well that was new tonight

In the middle of watching the Diplomat on the Netflix app ( on the SkyPod) a screen appears saying the last accessed device was a Vodafone device and this does not appear to be your primary location.

In order to make the Skypod the device at the location I had to get a text with a link to go and confirm that the Sky device was at the primary location

After that confirmation Netflix continued. Netflix has been used many times since since the Skypod was installed.

I assume this is the stop password sharing process

I got an email confiming that this device was the primary location.

"SEI Robotics SEI700SKY Streaming Stick. Netflix Self-Serve project"

Login to your Netflix account via the web and go to your account and under Security and Privacy, Sign out of all devices, that should fix it..

Thanks

It was all fixed by following their links

I just thought it strange that I had been using the Netflix app on the Skypod for a few weeks but tonight was the first time it flicked up that warning. I suppose it check the MAC address of the device finally against the account
