We are watching MAFS on 3 OD, the experience sucks. This is supposed to be the next best thing, but that app sucks. There are red highlights on some eps, why? Cant be the ones we viewed as those are not red. Why? Should I have to read a manual to find out on this latest and greatest thing?? When we FF thru ads that also sucks. I can use the ATV remote to skip 10 seconds or I can scroll but there is no image to see where to scroll to. Useless. For something that is not old fashioned, its pretty backward. Sky, I can see what has been viewed, I can choose to start where we left off or the start, I can see where I am scrolling. For an old fashioned system, its pretty flawless.

I will digest it tonight. I did notice that the new SkyGo is "coming soon" and appears to have more, cover more. I wonder if soon is soon, or in this one year away overall upgrade?

We were referring to the stand alone Sky app, not SkyGo. But yes I just read that, that new SkyGo is out Monday. I use it, so keen to see what improved.

Here is the presentation info re the BYOD Sky app. I'd like to know how they will stop the issue with SkyGo, non subscribers logging in with a mates login details.

Also, if I keep my MySky, or if I used the puck, can I still use the Sky app? I assume so, surely.

Doesn't this new Sky App just cannibalize the existing SkyGo app? It seems to incorporate all the features, so it doesn't make sense to me for them to revamp SkyGo, unless the new Sky app takes advantage of things like UFB Multicast (a la Vodafone TV), and is only designed for home use and SkyGo is for 'on the go' watching.

Where did you see that? On pages 46 and 47 it states that the companion apps are common to both propositions, these being Skybox or Puck @ one stream

Multi Sky boxes or pucks gives more steams

Could someone please post a link to Sky's presentation document because I can't find it.

The new Sky Go app is out Monday, unsure what it will have. The new app is a year away I assume when this all releases. Perhaps SkyGo then, will be redundant?

While I admit to have criticised Sky in the past, now that I have had an opportunity to review the investor statement slides, I must say I'm looking forward to what is being proposed.
The mention of a new STB, capable of 4K HDR (and hopefully Atmos/DTS:X), choice of viewing platforms, retention of satellite transmission (for at the bach), etc. It all fits nicely with our current and near term plans.
I have banged on in the past about when we might get the Sky-Q STB. It would appear to fit the bill for some of what is being projected. 4K, capable of recording and serving multiple streams within a dwelling, satellite and internet based, Bluetooth control. Essentially, a hub for whole home entertainment, without requiring multi-room.
I am undecided whether I want the option of outright purchase of things like the set top box, as opposed to ongoing rental. In all the years we have had our Mysky (got for a one off payment) it has been replaced once (free of charge) due to hard drive failure. While I recognize that we don't own it (according to t&cs) we essentially bet Sky that we would continue as subscribers beyond the payback period @ $25/month.
It will be interesting to see just how the whole thing is structured pricewise. I like that it seems to be a broad brush approach. Keeping the viewers that have been with them since UHF days while attracting next gen VOD customers. Our household is a mixture across that spectrum, from one who watches live TV only, right through to others who virtually never watch live TV.

While 'excited' is probably too strong a word to use in this instance, as I said above I am looking forward to seeing what unfolds. Just get on with it Sky!

Agree. I feel many homes are live TV, and recorded TV, and OD only users. I am cautiously excited. The presentation was thorough and I give Sky the benefit of the doubt as they have been and are, locked into Optus. So they will finally go VOD and give price benefits. They will wear costs in the transition between the current Optus fees and the new fee $30M I gather, flat fee. More content from HBO is an extra.

My impression is that function and featurewise it will be a premium SVOD in look and feel. Not just another grid of images to click on.

If the new puck supports all the NZ based SVOD, and these include Playing Now for the FTA ones, i.e. linear, its very much an all in one box affair.

I didnt get that it might or does support multiple in house streams.

When I had Fanpass I found it very average. The video quality which was 720p from memory was a poor 720p. It had jitter. I.e. it felt that out issued a frame every second or two. As if it was truly live streaming with no buffer. No idea what its like now

The things you say Sky wont do, well, you need to read the presentation as that is exactly what they are doing. You can choose satellite, or you can choose the puck and watch everything OD, or you can choose the app and BYOD

I think we are getting out wires crossed or misunderstanding each other. I assume we are saying OD = On Demand content/service?

How do you watch your docos before they are broadcast on Discovery as an example? You have to wait for a show to be broadcast via satellite so you can record it to watch later. what about that show that was on 1 hour ago but you weren't sitting on the channel? Well, you can't watch that until it's next broadcast and you remember to record it. That is where OD is better because I can discover content and watch it instantly. All OD services I have ever used have a rewind ability which is why I think we are misunderstanding each other.

I separate Sky's entertainment and sport. I have said previously Sky's plan for entertainment (as per the presentation) sounds awesome and will make their entertainment options very compelling. Coupled with Netflix (even though that will most likely remain a separate sub) could be an option for me. As for sport, Sky is clearly unwilling to make significant change (as per the presentation) other than offer mobile only to their "Online Addicts" who apparently don't watch sport on TV's. I appreciate Sky's hand is forced here but it's clear that watching sport on a screen any bigger than 12 inches than will still be a premium option for the foreseeable future.

Ah, I thought you meant sport, my mistake.

Sport, well that costs. They offer mobile as a cheaper option. Its just a new and cheap option.
