I've used it on Google Chromecast 4k w TV in the last couple of days. It seemed better although not completely fixed. In both cases I didn't have to look far for my program. t
That could be it..

Dayum! Now that is surprising. Oddly enough, I had an old 2018 Galaxy A8+ phone and Neon works perfectly fine. It's definitely something to do with Android TV OS.

If you've got the issues even with the brute force of the Shield Pro, I think we're all screwed.

Yes same setup as you. The only method that makes (albeit barely) usable is force closing the app and clearing the cache every time you start watching, and then after two episodes you'll have to do it again because it starts getting slow again.

We recently bought a DishTV SmartVu A7070 to replace a VTV box, and the worst thing about it we've found is that with second and subsequent use of the Neon app, its delay in responding to remote button presses makes it (just the Neon app, not the whole device) almost unusable. We've already established the necessary habit of disconnecting and reconnecting the power (easier, and about as fast, as force-stopping the app) before watching Neon. No such problems with any other apps we use.

phone and android tv are different apps
NEON have already acknowledged there is a problem with the TV app (although inexplicably trying to blame google)

Ok, so it's not my imagination. I re-subscribed to Neon recently because Outlander seasons 1-5 is finishing at the end of April and I thought it wasn't this slow last time I was on. I complained in Neon chat and they didn't seem to know anything about it. The best performance I can get is with my Panasonic twin tuner HWT260 for fast forward or rewind but it takes several seconds to go to the next episode. Perhaps watching it on my PC is a better idea for now.

Depending on the Neon employee you talk to, you will hear different things.

Just recently, Neon released a UI update which has cleaned things up, but the performance issues remain.

I bought a TCL 65C835, which uses a much faster processor than the CCWGTV. With this brute force, the app runs quicker. Sadly there are still serious delays when navigating the home page, pausing, resuming and bringing up the fast forward/rewind interface.

I force close and clear cache, it does make a difference. Oddly, caching data should improve performance... bloody Neon. Just such a pain to do it every single time.

Perforrmance is still dire.  It gets worse the longer the app is running.  On starting it is barely usable.  Once you have watched something I need to terminate the app app and restart it to be able to use the menu again without major frustration.

Yes, this is exactly what I've been having to do. It seems it's the only "solution" until it is fixed. If I had to guess, the app needs to be re-written from the ground-up - it's like there's too much bloat.

My guess would be a memory leak or something.

Neon have announced maintenance to be carried out from 12:30am to 1:am Thursday 13th April. Do you think this might fix things?

Don't know where you saw this but my guesstimate is it'll be their central servers where their video library is stored.  A specific timeframe is the giveaway for me whereas an app update would be released then dribble out as each device picks it up and applies over hours or days.

But who knows, hope to be proven wrong!  They have some great content but their Android app performance is appalling compared to ANY other streaming platform.

Still really bad. Will stick to watching it on the PC but have been watching stuff on TVNZ at the moment. I am half way through the first season of Counterpart.
