Apsattv:

The Bitrate from SKY Sport UHD 1 when testing over the past few months has been 25mbits. But havn't looked at it for a few weeks.

Testing != Production. When it goes live I'd be surprised if they still do it at 25mbits.

Then to me it says they should be cutting costs.

I believe they will be able to make some large cost savings when the next rugby rights are up for renewal with NZR, they last paid around $500 million for 5 years in 2019 when currently they are probably only worth half to 2/3rds of that price given rugbys decline in NZ.

Let's face it - if there's a lack of bidders, the price goes down - market forces and all that.

Back on topic - I don't even have a 4K TV, so I don't know what I might be missing, but I think at some stage I may end up forced into a 4K TV and then I'll kill off my Sky sub and maybe just stream.

The new boxes are way too problematic for me to even remotely consider one at the price they want me to pay.

Sky's prices are a reflection of their costs. They aren't making outrageous profits by any stretch.

Then to me it says they should be cutting costs.

Just listening to their customers on here would be a start. They have enjoyed a near monopoly for a long time. Spark, Bein, DAZN etc. have made minor inroads over the years but nothing major. Customers will become more savvy about use of VPNs and paying overseas providers, regardless of whether it is legal or not. If there is an overseas provider who streams sport in 4k for a lower price than is available from Sky NZ, it becomes an option.

How is the 4K rugby looking for those with the new box?

The 4K test is during the match next weekend, not tonight.

Easier for Sky to get the raw stream off the paddock if played in NZ.

Sooooo how’s the 4K stream going tonight? Even the Sky Sport Now app stream is looking better than normal.

Looks great, a lot more detail coming through. Did some channel switching between HD Sky Sports 1 and the UHD channel, it does look better.

They simply don't have the technology to inject adds into the 4K stream. I'm sure they will be ready next year. No more UHD until 2025 and satellite switch to Optus D3/10.

Review: Was a great 4K Test, the quality and picture quality were superior and a massive difference to the HD stream which I did flick between at times. Adding value to what you pay for.

I wish they would dump 4k in to Sky Sports Now - wouldn't take away from the sat business as it costs more due to the lack of cross subsidisation but would make the grass better.. or just throwing a higher bit rate would be good but 4k and bitrate would be fab!
