JohnstonDJ:
yuxek: i'd like to see another nz company launch their own paytv service with their own satellites to compete with skytv and give people in nz hundreds of channels.

Sky only rents space on a satelliate it doesn't have its own one. As far as I'm aware even renting space on a satelliate is not cheap at all.

We did have another option for pay-tv being Telstra Cable, but they pretty much got sick of running it themselves, and now just on-sell the sky channels.

Over the last several years Telecom has had a plan to serve content providers by giving them a portal into the home in this area as the introduction of fibre is more widespread so keep a lookout for that, if you visit thier labs they are already testing this technology which is really interesting. Not sure if the direction has changed with the departure of Ms Gattung but that was certainly one of the strategic visions when I was there.

I would get sky in a heartbeat if they added Discovery & Nat Geo in HD!

Discovery Turbo would also be a fantastic new channel to add.
