kharris: When I try to play a program from the guide that is older (less than 24 hours) the broadcast starts from the beginning of the current live program not the program I selected.

This is happening on AppleTV and the Android TV app.

When I do the same thing on my iPhone it plays the program I selected correctly.

+1 on this on Apple TV. Whoops. Seems like they'll get this kind of howler fixed pretty quickly.

On an Apple TV attached to fibre the new app seems to provide a better picture than the old app.

It's an odd choice to label everything currently on as being "Live" given the connotation of the word in a live sport context.

I guess we'll see how it holds up when the ABs play Los Pumas at the weekend.

Pleased to see it plays the current programme from the start with the skip to live feature available immediately now rather than having to avert eyes from the score while rewinding.

Big picture quality improvement though so that's a great start.

Yeah, I can still see some compression artifacts but they are nowhere near as bad a before.

Just fired up the SSN app on ATV4k for this weekends rugby. Thank you 7 days free trial...

The little things make the biggest difference.

I too found this odd - my wife saw it and commented "Wow - look at all the stuff that's live *now*".

Surely a UX person should have looked and said "Let's make it say «Live» when it's actually live right now, and «on now» instead?"

I also pondered why the iPad version has textual labels on the "Categories", but the AppleTV version just has the icons.  (The "portal"-esk man escaping category is "Other" ... with nothing yet in it)

The web version shows just the icons, until one hovers over the icon (which isn't great on tablets)

The picture quality will be the true measure - I put on demand a soccer match which seemed to drop about 4 frames in 5 ... but some of the other things I've attempted to watch (ESPN seems especially great) seems to have been without fault.

The compression artefacts was still noticeable in one of the Farah Club replays - close ups seem OK though.

All in all, it *does* seem to be improving, so that's always a positive.

Just started using Sky Sport Now since the update, what a disaster.

The UI is laggy, can't adjust quality of the stream, consistent buffering (Even when not watching live). Hovering my mouse over the stream makes it gggooooooo sssssssllllllooooowwwww.

What the heck?

My experience is that the picture quality is acceptable for the first time with SSN during a test.

The picture quality for the NZLvAUS and AUSvRSA games from Adelaide were good earlier too.

I agree. It’s an improvement and watchable. Still some compression issues on wide shots, but much better generally.

Was using a sideloaded version (v12 I think) on a mibox s 4k. Flashed up saying need to update to latest version in the App Store. Sideloaded v13 won’t work now. Anyone else in the same boat?

Maybe try Kodi instead? Worked great for the All Blacks game last night

The author of this article has clearly never used SSN. The picture quality has improved recently but the satellite picture is still far superior. Skygo picture quality is superior too.

The replay up to 24 hours no longer works on TV Apps or Apple TV. The bug has been acknowledged by SSN but there is no timeframe on a fix.

There are also performance issues with the new app meaning it is laggy or freezes in the UI from time to time.

The author should try using something for more than 5 minutes before saying it is fit for purpose or they should search for forums like this for commentary.

Spend 5 minutes reading the comments on the article and you will see how life really is.

Haha. The two articles paint a different picture don’t they.
I love how they always say things have only affected a small number of users.
They mention the glitch with Samsung, but fail to mention the bug meaning that replaying content up to 24 hours.ago does not work! I suppose you don’t really want to point out when one of the major selling points of an app does not work. Lol.

I've used Kodi in the past, but i'd prefer to use SSN if at all possible

Some observations from a dish hater:

Sky Sport Now still has poor frame rate on all ‘live’ channels as well as some highlights. ESPN and ESPN2 have full frame rate and look great.

Mind you, Spark Sport coverage of the ENG RSA cricket has poor frame rate too. Even the highlights are choppy as.

Using A7070 dishtv smartvu+. Google TV Chromecast and AppleTV.

I was hoping (but not expecting) the SSN update to address the frame rate issue as the priority but instead it seems SKYTV have focused on ‘watch as live’ to appease the vociferous EPL community.

Watched All Blacks Argentina match last night at a party via streaming from iPhone to chromecast and it was good enough. The quality of the nz team was again questionable but the viewing experience was OK.

They really must address the frame rate issue now.
