Stu1: It’s sheight again replays are terribly blocky , should make it free if they can’t provide a decent service
Kirk
Looks fine to me on Apple TV...couldn't say that last month.
JonnyCam: Two or three dropped frames / sututters is about all. I can complain about.
Do wonder if that's relates also to the ab's playing good rugby?
If the game is poor,. I notice other stuff.
Nice pic quality,
Didn't notice many compression artifacts
Glad to hear the upgrade has been an improvement to PQ. When my satellite subscription ends in NOV I may have to jump back across to SSN if I can't get a decent discount.

Have tested with cricket tonight, on Android tv app (Chromecast with google tv), PC (chrome), Casting (built into tv), Casting (Chromecast with google tv) and Kodi tv add in, the framerate appears to me to still be 25fps, Cricket ball travels across screen a even pace but its not smooth, like it travels too far between frames. Interestingly when testing on the kodi addin it reports the frame rate as being 50 fps for 3mb/s 720p, 4mb/s 720p and 8mb/s 1080p streams, but to my eye it is not 50fps.
SkyGo still looks far superior when it comes to smoothness of frame rate and less noticeable gradation between colours.
The UI platform/framework they are using looks to me to be the same as what is used with kayo but I reckon they have stuffed something up still in the backend when transcoding the streams.
GlennMcC: Hi I am having trouble with finding the Sky Sport Now app on LG TV. On their Faqs for the platform upgrade, it said it would be available on LG WebOS. A few weeks on and nothing available to download. Their live chat has not been helpful if telling me why there is a delay
Thanks

Regarding the LG TV, I've got the same problem with no sign of SSN available on the LG Web store.
More annoyingly, I can't get any of the other so-called SSN-supported technologies running on my LG TV (which is the C9 model, approx 2 years old).
Have tried the following:
1) On iPhone, installed SSN app and have attempted to connect to LG TV using Airplay. The app initially connects (it displays the Sky Channel Name on the centre of the screen) but fails to play and returns to the Airplay screen. It repeats this continuously but never actually displays anything.
2) Have logged in to SSN website on MacBook and have the channel successfully playing but as soon as I activate Airplay, the picture goes to a black screen and only the audio is still playing - note both the screen on the laptop goes black and the tv screen goes black but they continue to play audio. As soon I stop Airplay, the picture returns to the MacBook.
3) Logged into SSN website on MacBook and have the channel successfully playing but as soon as I physically connect HDMI cable to MacBook, picture is lost but audio plays. This is the same behaviour as 2) above.
4) I can play Youtube on my iPhone and successfully connect to the LG via Air Play, no problems.
5) I can play Spark Sport on my iPhone and successfully connect to the LG via Air Play, no problems.
Has anyone else experienced similar problems trying to get SSN running via Air Play. From my results above it definitely looks like an issue with the SSN app and website not being compatible with Air Play, which is completely misleading from Sky, but totally expected!!
I'm happy to be proven wrong and for someone to tell me to try something else.

So on Thursday night I contacted Sky via the Chat section within the SSN app. The full script follows, but in essence Sky admit that 'Watch from Live on the TV guide for Chromecast/Airplay from iPhone/iPad is not currently available. We are working on adding this feature soon and will keep you updated.'
Instead, they suggest I access the service via PC which is no use to me as I'm running a Mac and they are not offering any refunds. What planet are these clowns on??!!
I have since lodged a complaint with the Commerce Commission.
Here's the full script of my conversation:

(10:49:52) MF : Hi, I’ve recently signed up to Sky Sport Now and am trying to connect to my LG tv using Airplay from my iPhone.
Within the app it says connected, however no content is displayed on the TV.
If I try and use Airplay on my iPhone with any other app, it connects to the tv and plays the content.
It’s only this Sky app which isn’t connecting.
(10:50:35) Nada K.: Hello! Watch from Live on the TV guide for Chromecast/Airplay from iPhone/iPad is not currently available. We are working on adding this feature soon and will keep you updated.
In the meantime please try accessing your subscription from a computer or any of the many other supported devices.
To see a full list of supported devices please visit https://www.welcome.skysportnow.co.nz/faq
(10:51:57) MF : Regardless whether I’m watching live or from the start of the programme it doesn't work.
(10:52:01) Nada K.: Is there anything else that I can assist you with?
(10:52:35) MF : Respond to my last question
(10:53:07) Nada K.: Please try accessing the service via mobile, laptop or a PC at the moment. These issues are being worked on.
(10:54:31) MF : So when I try running airplay from my mac to the tv, the audio plays but there is no picture.
(10:55:37) Nada K.: Again, the Airplay and Chromecast issues are known and being worked on.
(10:56:06) MF : So will you refund my subscription because the service isn’t working?
(10:58:47) Nada K.: The only issue that is being worked on is with the Chromecast/Airplay, however, the service is working fine on other platforms: Laptop/Pc, mobile or a tablet.
(10:59:03) Nada K.: At the moment, there are no refunds available.
(11:01:25) MF : So i have an iPhone and a MacBook I do not have a PC and your website states that it works on iPhone and Mac, which you’ve just clearly stated it is not currently working. It is therefore false advertising and I require a refund.
(11:02:27) Nada K.: The Chromecast and airplay are being worked on. The service is working fine on mobile devices and laptops.
(11:02:50) MF : What part of what I just wrote, don’t you understand?!
(11:03:14) Nada K.: If you do not connect it to the TV and only access it on Macbook, it should work.
(11:04:04) Nada K.: Not to connect it with the TV is what I am trying to explain to you
(11:04:15) MF : The service you provide is an absolute joke. I’m contacting Fair Go to get this resolved.
(11:04:39) Nada K.: Apologies for the inconvenience.
Is there anything else that I can assist you with?
(11:05:17) MF : You need to update the website to say that it currently does not work streaming from iPhone/Mac to tvs!
(11:05:45) Nada K.: Will pass on this as feedback.
(11:05:49) Nada K.: Thanks for contacting support and please let us know if you need help in the future!

Look - I am no apologist for Sky but this is no commerce commission outrage matter either.
It seems that Sky attempts to support a wide variety of devices (smart tvs of various brands and models with varied capabilities), Apple TV devices, Android, iOS, Android TV, gaming consoles... ) and people's experiences have therefore varied. Whether that is a wise strategy from Sky is debatable - it is obvious that some devices have had and continue to have teething issues, some unresolved.
Throw in general issues people have with streaming and home networks and varied expectations, and I can see why people have become frustrated.
In my case I found when casting to my Gen2 Chromecasts directly after the version upgrade;
So I upgraded one of my Chromecasts to a Gen4 - model. Now the app is running as an Android-TV app, the experience was transformed - all features now worked. I recognised a Gen2 Chromecast was probably due for a refresh, and just sucked it up.
I am down $100 for a new Chromecast, I am paying $40/month where Spart-Sports was $20/month, and the timing of the upgraded version (after the start of the EPL season and in the midst of All-Black tests) was unfortunate - but it all now works satisfactorily for me, the new features are welcome, and I am not outraged by the experience
Since then Sky has done something else and my Gen2 Chromecast now DO play replays fine (but the 24-hour catch-up still plays the live channel).
So in summary I don't think Sky have covered themselves in glory. But this is not a "storm the citadel", demand refunds and report to the commerce commission situation.

This is only a small part of the problem.
If only the backend product was up to modern standards..
