joshhill96: Have not tested the box being left alone, however if you switch it off it will return to the last channel you watched, if you are watching an app like Netflix it goes back to TV.

If you pull out the sat coax while watching sky sport...does it continue or swap to backup "stream"

What a shame if it doesnt, this would solve rainfade outages and help phase out needing a dish

I prefer Satellite over streaming any day but a rainfade backup to steaming would be a good idea, then again how much rainfade would you have over the new box compered to the old box

I have kept the sat coax laid through out the house so the TV's in the other rooms can watch different freeview channels

joshhill96: The Sky radio channels are definitely not in the Tune In app, when I activated my Sky Box I got a credit for the month of the radio packages, I assume they will not be available for the new sky box subscribers ?

After a nights sleep and thinking about the box having Google voice...........  When you connect the box initially it seems to set up a default google account. Going to the settings, I found where I could insert my google email address and password (which differs from my Sky email address and p/w). Then using the sky remote pressing the speech button asked it "play RNZ concert" and up popped the station from Iheart Radio". It didn't recognize RNZ National, but "Radio NewZealand National" worked, again from Iheart.
Having some Google Nest speakers which of course are connected to my Google account, prompted me to try this and the new box obviously works on the same principle.

Box duly arrived yesterday by courier, no prior warning that it was on its way or a tracking number , even at 9am on my account page , Sky still said order was in processing mode

Set up easy , logging on to Google account when prompted just as simple …..

Remote …. Not good if your large fingers … but you get used to it

Picture….. seems clearer than the My Sky box

Apps ….. easy to sort out even the ones not already programmed into the box.

Series Link …. Yes it records everything that’s related to ie Premier League etc … that will hopefully sorted

Remote recording … not yet sorted, reported to be rectified by mid year ( so thats 2025 by experience over the past 2 years

Overall….. not as disappointed as I thought it might be

it seems all im doing is complaining but i am getting frustrated about everything that was simple is now so much harder. another case in point is watching programs, you cant set any time to watch from on recorded programs. for example i record the nrl matches and in the past i know to just watch the game and miss the pre game i could set it to start 60 minutes in  now it seems i have to fast forward 60 minutes which is a pain. Maybe they will fix things but im not sure i want to wait .

Common sense is not as common as you think.

One for the POSITIVE side!!

If you have a Synology Diskstation with lots of video stored on it, you can install the DSVideo app, which I have just tried out and works just fine.
Using the Google voice search in the apps say "Install Dsvideo app" and it will find the app.  I've found when searching for an app, Youtube stuff seems to get in the way.
Asking it to install a certain app seems to a better way of finding them.

cheers

Good, if that works; then Plex should work, along with VLC.

I will finally be able to run videos from the network.

Ok for those with the RF modulator to send the same signal to other rooms by coax, with the old skybox, this works with the new

skybox which only has 1 output - HDMI.

There may well be other options in particular HDMI splitters are much cheaper on trademe

but we can't be sure they will work until someone checks them.

Jaycar AC1710 HDMI splitter $71.90

Jaycar AC1773 HDMI TO AV converter $99.90

both of these are powered

Total Cost $179.89 delivered (on anzac day) very fast.

No changes in the new skybox setup are needed.

There are cables everywhere of course.

My new sky remote works at least 20m away in the front of the garage through several walls.

It also works further than that outside from the section boundary.

Good work Rod

I see the AC1773 HDMI to AV audio is stereo so one up on the older modulators which are only Mono

Or even better, get rid of your current modulator and use this https://shorturl.at/grxCM

Scroll down and you have a few to choose from

Thanks for this. Now I don't need my Mi-Box to play movies and music videos off my Synology NAS. All is working well through the Skypod.

Just don't hit the controls at 4pm or you get dumped back to the main screen.
