It was horrible prior to the upgrade. It’s better now in terms of picture quality but I’m not sure about frame rate. Get a 7 day free trail and test it out.

The problem is that if we just want to watch EPL, and don’t have sky dish, then we have to suffer the low quality but pricy sky sports now product for the next 6 years! Btw I just tried chromecast to my LG TV as the app failed on air played onto LG web OS, the chromecast experience is shocking, it always default to start of the program and has no way to bring it to the live session!

The weird framerate issues are not just on sky sport now,

Just look right this moment on Sky sports 1 the NZ vs WI womens cricket, there is a horrible judder on all panned camera shots. Same issue on sky go as well.. Garbage in garbage out etc

I complained on twitter and they asked for details on my device..

When there was a LOT of golf on recently, the LPGA had decreased framerate, or that's how it appeared to me. Whether that was due to reducing FR for live incoming events based on satellite capacity I don't know. I dont watch LET golf (which is on Spark Sport) but that's also lower quality, even though both SS and Sky generally have excellent quality. Perhaps it managing what's arriving, and of at any time there is a LOT of live sport arriving, something has to be cut back? You don't get this with movies as they dont arrive, they are stored then output

HAs anyone had problems with the Android/TV apps?  Both app style (TV and mobile) are installed on fully supported devices but both do not display anything correctly within the app.  None of the tabs work and the main home just is a big fail.  I'm tempted to reinstall but its surprising that its both the mobile and TV apps that are displaying the same issues.

Might have found out why... I'd used paypal to pay for the sub and it started in August after the 1st 7 days free... at the month renewal date in September it doesn't look like it has renewed and going on to the webpage it tells me that paypal cannot be used for reoccuring subs.. Classic Sky, no email to say I was no longer subscribed and nothing in the app/screen.  As I was only watching the EPL and that has been on a break for about 4 weeks that would make sense as to why I haven't done anything... oh well I doubt I was going to carry on anyway as $35 per month for EPL is too much!

Out of interest, what do you think a fair price is?

Was it more the $25 / mo from Spark Sport? (or even better when it was $20)

Essentially, if you only watch the EPL and nothing else, then it's a little over $1 per day to view all the games & highlights.

As I watch a bunch of other stuff, that price is fair to me, but value propositions differ.

Oh its not that its not a fair price for all of the content, Im not deluded to think that it should be cheaper.. .but I've already got Spark Sport for the F1 and then Sky Sports for the EPL is really all I watch leading to ~$65 per month for two sports and as I only watch the team I follow and highlights I cannot justify it at this stage.  Being English, I hate all other EPL times but my own 🤣

Then this just goes to show that more competition in the streaming space does not necessarily lead to better value for the consumer because you need to subscribe to multiple services in order to consume the content you desire.

correct. A lot of the people who clambered for competition are probably the same ones I see moaning that NZ Cricket should be on 'real tv'

I'm glad the EPL is back on Sky, so I got rid of Spark Sport, My SSN annual pass costs $300 per year (for some reason still) so that's great value, but  there have been very testing times with both the old & new android tv apps.

Sport was always the likely casualty in the streaming wars; a clear example of this was the UK Sky EPL split with BT and some irish firm taking the rights meant that you had to sub to all three to see a season of a single team, otherwise you only saw some games.

I'm an odd user as all I watch is Rugby. I have close to ZERO interest in any other sport. Even then I watch Canterbury and Allblack games as there are too many teams in the comps to watch them all these days.

This means for a good chunk of the season I watch four games a month. Sometimes It'll be 8 when there is NPC and Allblack games on so $50 a month is far from good value.

I wish they'd offer Rugbypass here as that's a brilliant service for people who only want to watch rugby. You can login at any time and watch any game in the current year from the beginning and when you clicked on a game that was on now it asked at the beginning if you want to join live or start from the start.

Unfortunately they seem to have purchased that as they knew some users in NZ were subscribing and using VPN's to access it. They still only offer it in developing regions where there isn't already a rights owner for rugby. They could at least make better use of the technology as SSN are only just now starting from the beginning with an option to jump to Live.

Edit: What I'm getting at here is they appear to have purchased more to retain the status quo rather than adding it to a stable of offerings or buying it to improve their technology. I don't understand when they have the platform why they don't offer a rugby only subscription but I know in reality its because they like the fact I have to pay for a bunch of stuff I don't want.

They don't offer a rugby only subscription because it would almost be the same price.  They need to cover the price of the rugby rights, which is the majority of their cost.

Its like they think every other sports gets the same investment as rugby does, rugby gets a huge slice of the broadcasting $$$ over the other sports.

If you look at NZRL, NZ Football, NZ Basketball (getting better) etc then Sky gives close to nothing which means the sport remains amatuer level funded by pokies.

I'm sure NZ cricket struggled aswell but they have the advantage of having no code competition during summer.
