SnapperQ:

pdkm: Those with the new box, how has your recording performance been?
Mine has been pretty bad, either recording it in multiple recordings, not extending the recording if it goes over time (NBL), saying it recorded something and it is not even the right thing (this happened with the F1 Sprint Shootout if anyone had this to record? I got half a game of live netball and then live tennis).
I read people are having trouble with the series link recording Everything, so I went through the weekend to record what I wanted.. Only a couple recorded correctly.
Between this and the good features I used to use frequently now gone, it's almost tempting to go back to the old one.

I'm thinking about not returning the old box until I see if they sort the new one out and bring back all the old functionality.

I do agree somewhat, but changes to technology now a days is not going to be the same what we were use to as service providers try everything to cut costs.

Like I said in another post that the cheap boxes out of Korea gives a lot more features but no stable performance.

Firmware updates will only fix 50% of the issues overtime. the other 50% is you pay for what you get!!

I haven't received my new box yet (ordered 2 weeks ago) but there are a couple of issues over the old box that are fixed with the new box

i have found that this is the worse thing on the new box, everything that made recording easy and straight forward on the old box has gone in the new one. It is just the simple things , like not being able to watch live tv while in the planner, not be able to start where you want in a recording and the series link not working or working to well. i am just getting frustrated because i know they can make it easy and simple so for me the jury is still out

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Apparently, these issues will be fixed in a firmware update around June 2023

I had the multiple recordings on the first day but it has been fine since. I too had the F1 sprint race on the set to go via the programmer but noticed like you that we got the netball and tennis.

Overall the box has been pretty good but I am frustrated that in some areas it seems to have gone backwards; when fast forwarding the screen goes dark, there is quite a lag when fast recording so find myself having to rewind and for some reason the search doesn’t always find the program even though it is named exactly the same as the list.

@minumm Are you here at GZ in an official capacity as a Sky representative, or as another Geekzoner who just happens to be working for Sky?

I think there is a real opportunity here for Sky to have an official, preferably somewhat technical, presence here to receive feedback, questions and recommendations from a tech-savvy audience who are genuinely interested in getting the best experience and performance out of these devices.

We've seen similar from ISPs and VF.  It's always well-received and shown to be mutually beneficial. Posters here are grown-ups and it's a moderated forum so, unlike mainstreams social media, it won't turn into a cesspit.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

The card in the old box is invalidated as soon as you activate the new box. The only way to circumvent that, is to pay for multiroom (or an extra multiroom if you already pay for that service)

It's a real pain that this new box requires a sat feed to run.  I've just moved into  a new house in Tauranga  which has a sat dish on the roof  but as the last people didn't have sky all is not well.  When I connected the STB  to the dish feed all was ok for an hour then loss of single.  Long story  short Sky tech came out last Friday  and found very low signal indicating that the LNB was stuffed  but as I have a two story house he didn't have a long enough ladder so someone else will have to come and look at it problem is now  he can't get on the roof until the rain stops and that could be  in another 10 days time. He said that if the new STB was internet without requiring a sat feed   he would have changed it then and there.

New box has been in for nearly an hour. Not really a fan so far.
Annoying not being able to use the planner and keep listening so you know when the ads are finished.

Not a finished product.. wouldnt be happy to pay $200 for the upgrade.. might be asking for my $50 back as its a step backward. No cec control from my samsung tv..

A bit underwhelmed. The vodafone box was better in my mind.. even at launch

New SKY BOX and IR

Just received my new SKY BOX but before I pull out my old MY SKY, I just want to check that the new one will work for me.

I currently have my SKY Box in my data centre so it reticulates around the house and I use my home network to send IR codes to the box from any room in my house.

Looking at the new box, I am not sure that it fully supports IR and I can't seem to locate the IR Receiver on the sky box to attach the remote transmitter to.

Has anyone had experience in setting this type of access up.

I can even use Ethernet codes if the SKY BOX supported that??

Also, I wonder if the new remote uses the same IR Codes as the old remote or if I will have to "re-learn" the IR codes from the new remote?

TIA

The remote uses Bluetooth for connectivity, IR is now obsolete

This interesting article popped up into my news feed. Of note are the comments on the author's experience on the upgraded Chromecast with Google TV, I thought he might have read and transposed some of our comments here. Slow and sluggish performance and a cluttered home screen. He echoes all the frustrations we've endured.

We weighed how much of Sky we actually watch and the stress the Pod has given us against other subscriptions we stream. We're out.

After many attempts over the past week I finally was able to talk to someone at Sky without the call being dropped and was able to terminate Sky. I just need to have someone reverse the Skypod charge.

Interestingly, once you get underneath the Sky skin, down to the core Android, the unit and remote work flawlessly.

Clunky, no comprehensive manual and no Radio New Zealand National. My Panasonic TV won't install it, need an Android TV. Don't want to splash out on a new TV!

Can't just press 421 like I have for last 20 years. A real step backwards. Can get RNZN on minitv app but doesn't revert to station when open it. Partner needs a simpe way of accessing it. Can also get it from Marantz home theatre internet but, again, too much messing around.

Also, I run through my Tuner for better sound but new box turns it off.
