We had one of the new boxes installed on Friday as a second decoder. As others have said recording functionality is turned on if you pay the MySky monthly fee. New UI is great - makes the MySky in the other room look very dated. The remote is the same as for MySky and many of the shortcut keys are the same (yellow to delete, for examole). Quite an impressive catalog of content is available On Demand. It's no Netflix but it's way more than the token effort I was expecting.

you can also scan ahead of time a lot easier and further too which is another bonus, not having to go the main guide so much.

just noticed this thread, plugged my MySky decoder into an Ethernet cable...

Now, how do I make it check for updates?

Nope. Via the satellite.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

no

it comes over the satellite connection, there are 2 updates, one prepares the box the other enables the on demand stuff and i would assume the networking side of things

With a little bit of planning Sky could have found out which customers are already network-capable and pushed to them first.
But that would probably have been too proactive.

got one installed today and still cant get the unit to connect with my Fritz box on WI fi but they also mention you need a Sky link to do it , no idea what that is. Talking to the installer he said that in Rotorua for the past 12 months he has had done hardly any installations and my job is the only one he has for Friday and Saturday.

Update. Just had the strangest conservation with a sky rep, i told him i couldnt get the Wifi working and he said the software was not ready yet and i couldnt do it hmmm ok , so what if i plug an ethernet cable in i asked , no that wouldnt work either i would have to wait for the software to update he told me even though i had already tried it and it worked fine. Not sure i want to call back  and still none the wiser.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

I wonder if the new Sky Box Smart Card will work with the Skybox F5s etc... range like the NZ45 ones do ? That's the only way to get Free HD channels depending n your subscription without an HD ticket

If you've had the new box installed you don't need the SKY Link because wifi is built in - you only need the Link if you have MySky HDI or HDI+ - so if Sky are telling people otherwise then it seems their own staff know less about this then we do.

What I find most strange is that the new box still requires an update. I can see the need to send new software to boxes that have been out in the wild for some time already but why aren't they shipping the new boxes with everything already loaded?

Also, back on page 4 of this thread l had a moan about my frustrating experience trying unsuccessfully to get prepared for the update by ordering the SKY Link in advance, first online then over the phone. Now we're hearing about the updates rolling out I just tried again and was pleasantly surprised that it let me order one right there via the web page. I was even more surprised that it showed a cost of $0.00 throughout the order process, not the $17.25 I originally read was the "one-off lending fee". I will wait to see whether an actual fee gets added to my Sky bill this month...

My Flatmate has SKY but uses the SKYBOX to watch the SKY channels, been going for a few years and haven't heard the smoke alarm yet or the smell of plastic money,
